Hr. Earl Newton was recovered last Thursday evening, and was at once brought home for burial, reaching here Saturday, evening at 8 o'clock. The . remains were accompanied home, by his friencl Mr. Chas. J. . Webb; who . also holds a position with the Ameri can Tobacco Co., in. their New York office. We understand that the Amer ican Tobacco Company had nev er given up the search' for the body, keeping v boats - patrolling the river all the time in search of the body, and on last Thursday evening were rewarded for their interest in this mission by seeing the body when it floated to the top of the 4 water; coming up within a few feet of where the young man went down .on that fatal day, Monday, May tne dra. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday evening at 3 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. A. Horna- dav, and assisted by Kev. L. r. Ryland, pastor of the Baptist church. There were present to pay their last respects to the memory of this . popular young man, a larger attendance than we ever saw on an occasion of this kind, we believe The floral offering was beautiful and abundant. If the family of Ear Newton ever doubted his popu larity among the people of Rox- boro and Person county we are sure that . doubt vanished when they saw this large assemblage, who came to.pay this their last tribute "to his ; memory.
