Warren; one of the most progress ve young farmers oi Route 1 gave us a pleasant call Saturday. He says they have had fine rains in his section and the farmers are., feeling decidedly better. Another one Mr. J. W. Brooks one of our popular rural carriers, has joined the procession and , is the proud possessor of a fine new automobi'e. It is an Overland, and is said to be one of the best stand ard cars. Rev. m, Bradsher, of Durham preached at the Methodist Church Sunday night . It had been an nounced that Dr. Kilgo would preach Sunday night, but he re turned to Durham Saturday even ing, hence the change in the pro gram. We are indebted to Rev. E. M. Snipes for the splendid report of the Durham District Con crencc and beg to reiurn thanks fors?me. It was so shat we could not attend these mee ins, which we deeply regret, but the report will tell you about them. Mr. Daniel LonxT, of Hurdle mills, and one oL The Courier's very-best friends, avored us with a call Monday. Mr. Long was one of the jurors which had to pass on the famous V'are-Kramer-Ameri- can-Tobacco suit. He says Raleigh is a good town but he certainly was glad to get back to the best spot on earth, notably Hurdle Mills And Can isn't far wrong about it, either. No More Simmons Diet. Senator Simmons just at tlrs time seems to introduce some very fine bills. The people of Norm Carolina have been souped on Simmc-ns beer until it has Iofet its taste, a knowing this to be a da of progress wilT certainly go to the Kitchin for better things. G. E. Woody. The managers of the "Realistic Theater" request us to announce that on account of ' the burning cut of the electric lights, and one thing and another, they havebeen a little disabled in mejr show, but now they are in good shape, with new pictures etc.. and will be open three nights each week and ready to entertain the public with a good clean show Go out and them. Will show Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night. Mr. T. A. Noell, of Helena, says he is experimenting with cot ton this year, as he has planted about an acre and a half just to see what it will do in this section. He further informed bs that he was not calculating on more than two bales to the acre. He inform ed us that Mr. Joe H. Carver mierht beat him on corn but he could lay him out on waUrmel lons, as he expects to raise four Jnil ion this year, and then sone. Hcrse and Mule Drowned. On last Thursday evening Mr. T. T. Harris, of Woodsdale had the misr'ortine to lose a - horse and mule by drowmng. He was re turning home late in the afternoon A A . " K 1 - JS i results above mentioned. Mr. Har-! ris saved himselr by catching to a lirnV Now, what do you know about this? Mr. Joe H. Carver, some time farmer, liveryman and drug gist, called in and invited us to 2.0 out and see some of his corn but, he added, you had better not go by I yourself for if you do you will never get out, for you would get lost in such a wilderness. Joe real ly is a good farmer "when he has some one like Billy Kirby to do his farming, but we gently in formed him that the Roost is in tl3 corn business also -but you can go through it without getting Jost, We rrote that ample provisions are being made for a good athe letic season next year at Elon College, advertisment of which occurs elsewhere in this paper. The authorities have not yet an nounced the name of thenew atheletic director. The director will not Only have charge or the baseball team, but will have gene- ..ral oversight of tennis, basketball and track ; exercises. Mr. w. H; Fleming of Burlington, N. CVho is manager of' the-base ball team" r fornext year, Is getting together a strong,, aggregation of players . and is arranging a very satisfacto . ry schedule. The well was fjnisued within a few days. A fountain of water such a supply that , the well cannot be pumoed drywas found at a depth of 55 feet. It is now the general opinion around'Marsh- yille, thqt about a Baptist church to go to find an abundance of water. In fact it has been sggested that had these waterseekers ?one lo the Methodist or Presbyterian church grounds, they miht have drilled 100 feet without finding more than enough water to sprinkle Marshville Our Home. After the Blind Tigers. It had been noticed that two strangers ,vere 4ian?ing around town, but as Roxbcro(is a pretty lively little town nothing much was thought about the matter un til last Saturday when warrants were issued for oae J )hn Hannah a brick muson who has been here for some time, and three negroes, Charlie Wilson. EJ N02II and Alvis Baroett, charging them with retailor. To the regret of the town the above npmed managed io elude arrest and made them selves scarce about this town. But the cat us-ually comes back and when it does they . will be Dromptly attended to. ' It seems that at the instance of some one two detectives, one white and one colored, were sent here, and as a result the above warrents were issued. As a result of their visit it is just a "leetle" harder to get the "ardent" than before so we are informed. She Walks 48 Miles a Day. Florence Norer, a high school girl, of St. Paul, recently walked 48 miles between 4. a. m., and p. m., in the same day. She was accompanied by her imcle, and though only 19 vears old she proved such a ste idy -and tireless walker that her friends predict she will rival the veteran Weston. 'We did it just for fun. " she siad m speaking about the walk ing trip. "I wanted to see if I .could do it. I havp not donemurh hiking, but that 50-mile walk did not seem so much. My parents were great walkers, and I guess J belong io walking stock. Of course I was a little tired at night, but the rtext day I felt fine and would have liked to try another hike, but my uncle thought it would not beadvisable.,, St. Paul Dis patch. T. W. Pass Sells.
