By a veritably-political land

was swept-away and the Conser
vative party secured one of the
heaviest majorities, upwards of
50, that the Conservative party
has ever had. Seven cabinet
ministers wbo . had' served with
Premier Laurier .were "amohg
the defeated candidates. "
.The Liberals lost ground in
practically every province of the
Dominion Where they won their
majorities were small. Where
the Conservatives won their
majorities were tremendous.
The government defeat means
that the Fielding-Knox recipro
city agreement, ratified by the
American congress in extra, ses
sion, will not be introduced when
the twelfth parliament assembles
next month, and that a revised
basis of frade with the United
States, looking to closer com

possible in the immediate uture.

to a policy. of trade expansion
