The vocational arglcultural students
of the Bethel Hill Hign School met
and organized a local chapter of
Young Tar Heel' Farmers, a state
? wide organization for students of vo
cational arlgculture in North Caro
lina. Officers were elected as follows:

The purpose of the Young Tar
Heel Farmer organization is to create
more Interest In . arglculture and a
higher respect for the business in
farming, to promote thrift among vo
cational agricultural students, to en
courage scholarship, leadership and
promote projects for recreation and
Community improvement.

In the Young Tar Heel Farmer
f^^Mzatton. namely: ? Oreen Hand,
0^ *^^Br and Carolina Farmer.
^^reen Hand. To become a Oreen
Hand the student must be fourteen
years of age or the mental equivalent !
enrolled in an all-day course in ag
riculture. possess suitable facilities
for carrying out satlsfacory super
vised farm practice and receive a
\ majority of the votes of the members
Y of fhe local chapter.
Farmer. To be elected to the ' de
gree of Farmer the student must j
have completed one year's work In
argrtcluture Including satisfactory j
supertvsed farm practice, at least
850.00 earned and on deposit or other- :
wise productively invested regularly
enrolled in an all-day class with plans;
for an enlarge program, of supervised
farm practice, lead the .class in a five !
five minute discussion when called i
upon to do so. recite to memory the
Country Boy's Creed and receive a '
majority of votes from the members
of the chapter.
Carolina Farmer. The qualifications !
for the degree of Carolina Farmer, j
the highest rank in the organization,
as as follows: The student must have
completed at least two years of agri
culture with outstanding supervised
farm practice, at least $300.00 earned
and oh deposit' or otherwise produc
tively invested. -be able to lead a
group successfully for twenty minu
tes. possess outstanding qualities of
leadership, make the high school
judging, or debating team, make an
_ .Average gradj.jjf eighty-five or more,
paffi'a subject matter test on agricul
ture given by the state supervisory
staff, and be familiar .with parlia
mentary procedure bv having held
?flee In the local chapter. The mem
bers for this degree will be elected
annually at the state meeting. _ the
