Wednesday. October 17, 1928, VOLSTEADISM Possibly nine out of ten Democrats who are opposing Mar. Smith will tell you that it is because of his prohi bition views. Well, if they are honest ?and candidly we do?not?believe more than one out of ten is, then we want to know how it is they, gener ally. are such admirers of the 4ate Mr. Wilson. Smith's views and Wilson's were almost a unit on the question of the Volstead Act. We are printing. on another page an article which we clip from the Baltimore Sun which gives some inside history on the ques tion. and we want every one who Kays he can not vote for Smith on this account to read it. No. the sim ple truth is that quite a number- who .ere opposing Smith is simply because lhey.-are. and h^ve always b^en. It had been thought that it would be difficult to have good exhibits un der the existing conditions ol a bad crop year, but the quality and ar rangement seemed to have improved some over last year. The school work, including all the grades and high school was very good and showed much thought and pre paration. The grades will probably use their prize money to beautify their respective rooms. The Fancy work and sewing de partment was taxed to it's capacity, and will probably have to be enlarged another year. Many beautiful ar ticles were shown here. Next was the cooking department, which was tastily decorated ?ana mass ed with good things whioh appealed to every eye. The Bethel Hill women have long been noted for their cul inary art. which was demonstrated in this department. In the Young Tar Heel Farmer s booth, the agricultural boys - showed their ability to use the hammer and saw. Keen competition was seen in the making of some of the articles, among which were milking stools, rabbit gums, feed hoppers, feed scoops, tables, hat racks, books made from clippings irt farm papers/various edu cational charts on poultry, hogs, cat tle. vegetables, etc. The. flower department was one of the most attractive exhibits shown. Thrro were more prizes offered' this year on flowers and there were many pretty pot plants and cut flowers. The dahlias seemed tc be most prominent in the display. ?.'M.i.>t1 T. nM.iv .M'.ri ? n.
