HearD about TowN Well, it Is just about impossible to i#ck anything much lor thii column; the merchants are so busy you can hardly get in a word edge ways with them, in fact about the only way to attract their attention is to rattle some silver. Every one undertakers, and they say no one. has time to die now ? making hay, while the sun shines. It is hard to tell which is the happiest, the average farmer or; the warehousemen of Roxboro; j neither has made any money, in i fact, all have consistently lost I money for the past several years,! but this season all are jolly and, happy and wishing every one a | Merry Christmas and a Happy New1 Year. In the recent election Roxboro j vote dry, Person county voted dry, but the boys somehow manage to find something stronger than 3.2. Saturday there was more evidence of intoxication than we have seen for some time; on the streets, bare ly able to navigate, were three handsome young men, well dressed and with every evidence of being gentlemen ? save their intoxicated condition; they were not disturbing any one, just having a good time and celebrating in a, manner which seemed to be very enjoyable; just a few blocks down Main street we saw another young man, of the same style and appearance, who was dreadfully sea sick. If only they could see themselves as other see them. The tobacco market closed Fri day, but the crowds on the streets show no evidence of it, side walks crowded, stores crowded and every- j body in a good humor. While we were a youngster, in! our teens, we took part in a brass band, blowing first tenor, and since | that time we have never been very j hot on music. We decided It was because we blew all of the music cut of our body, as well as our soul, j but last Sunday night we certainly did enjoy the music at the First Baptist church by the combined ] choirs of the town. It touched ourj soul and made us want more, and we here and now insist that this, combined choir get together and give us something of the kind, say along about Easter time.
