TAFT The South is pleased that two of her citizens occupy positions on the Supreme court bench of the nation, but all of us should be still prouder that this genera tion has produced an official who was big enough and broad enough not to have been influenced by politics in performing .so liili a dutv. Such men are rare in this day when many times important matters are diccnuntod unihr flimsy excuses back of which is partv policy. Hut as the South lias won on her merits, so North Carolina could easily win on the highest merit did Mr. Taft see fit to appoint Chief Justice Wal ter Clark to this high tribunal lie has judicial attainments and fitness equal to any, and surpass ed by none. Judge Clark would reflect a profound honor upon his state, with his superb ability to fill the appointment. There is no reason why our state should not sec her gifted sons in this hih et judicial tribunal. o THE STABILITY OF THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY.
