Beginning this morning members of the cabinet will begin with the President to formulate the new policies of the Wilson regi me, already outlined. The Pres ident will begin work then on his special message. Though the President has not given out what he will recommend, his intention is to devote his message exclu sively to the tariff, pointing out currency reform as the next leg islative goal. Why He Chose Lawyers. Curiosity as to what impelled some of the selections brought the explanation from some of the President's friends that Mr. Wil son believed that both the War and Interior departments should be managed 'by trained lawyers, able to render constructive opin ions. The Phillippinc problem and the adminitsration of the Canal Zone influenced Mr. Wil son, it is known, to pick Secre tary (iarrison, because of bis long experience on the equity bench in N'cw Jersey. j Bryan's Great Executive Ability Mr. Bryan's position in the j State Department seems an easy j task. He handled the Cuban, situation with an ease and knowl edge which shows his wonderful executive abilitv. OUR CENTER OF POPULATION "Southwest Guilford with High Point and the thirckly populated section of Davidson and Ran dolph and this end of Guilford for ten miles each way is the center of population of this sec-1 tion with marked signs of con- ( tinned and rapid growth from j dav to dav. For miles around people come here to do their banking and trading, and' with AT THE EAGLE Tlic F.agle presented for the first half of this week "The Arn old Twin Sisters." These little girls do a nice singing, talking and dancing act. introducing four complete changes of wardrobe. The Picture Program. "The Mexican Spy." This is another of those live two reel Lubin features. It is a dramatic story typical of the Army Life of Mexico and the United States. The scenes are laid on the bor der, and a powerful lesson against gambling, which is only too com mon among the officers and young subatlerns. The picture is made with every attention to the local and military atmos phere of the two republics. There w ill be no extra charge for this big two reel feature. Admission 10c to all. Justice, one of the representatives from Guilford in the North Carolina general as sembly, came in from Raleigh yesterday to spend Sunday with his family here. Mr. Justice was asked whether or not State Sen ator Ilobgood. of Guilford, who is in Raleigh, would be an appli cant for appointment at the bands of Governor Craig to the judgeship of this district. Mr. Justice in reply to the question, said he had heard Senator nob good say that, owing to the fact that he was a member of the gen cral assembly that created the new judicial districts, he doubted the propriety of allowing bis name to be used as a candidate for the position, and that, there fore, he was in no sense an ap plicatn for the office. Greens boro X'ews. Senator Ilobgood did the right thing no member of the legis lature should think of being a candidate for an office, which was created by a legislature'of which the applicant happens to be a member. It has gotten so that many people go to the legislature only to create ' jobs for them selves. the era of good roads this great community life will grow. Not only is this immediate sec tion the center of population it is decidedly the industrial center having fully a round hundred industrial plants it is this fine growth industrially and numeri cally which is speeding us on to ward an independent county gov ernment. SUNDAY WITH FRIENDS. j A reverent hush pervaded the large congregation thorughout 1 the sermon by Mr. McFarland Sunday morning in "Vision." I r--.t 1- .... . u ... :t 1 ; IIOU WillHS Illdll (If Willing i"-' make all minor matters secondary to the vision he reveals. At the evening scrive a crowded house listed attentively as Mr. Farland preached on the "Great Invita tion." While people arc scrupu lous to heed invitations of a so cial nature, how many complete ly disregard the most important invitation of all. The person who feels no need of real conversion is like the man in the parable who had not on the "wedding garments." The earnest singing by the choir was an inspiration and the solo, "Abide With Me." by Miss Mildred Harmon was effective. At the close of the service dur ing a solemn period of prayer, two young men were genuinely converted and then followed a hearty old-fashioned testimony meeting. Special meetings continue trough this week, afternoons at 3 o'clock, and evenings at 7.30. Come and bring your friends. MURPHY-HARRISON Robert B. Murphy and Mrs. Annie Harrison were united in marriage Sunday morning, March 9. 1913. at 9.30 o'clock at the home of the bride on West Green street in the presence of a few special friends. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy will make their future tiear Thomas ville, N. C. Rev. J. M. Milliard, officiating. Color Road Complete by August CONTRACT LET. The V. X. Coler Co., have let the contract for the road connect ing with High Rock 011 the Southbound by way of Denton Thomasvillc on to High Point to McCrary, of Atlanta. The company expects to be in High Point with the new road by August 15 next, and will inimedi ately have cars in operation The road will be operated by steam. The coming of this mail to High Point puts us in touch with a rich undeveloped timber section, besides a thickly popu lated section of territory by which this citv will be great lv benefitted. It is understood the plan is to make High Point the terminus and the road will not be extend ed to Greensboro. A LARGE SANATORIUM The High Point Hospital, our splendid local institution, which is being liberally patronized by the city and surrounding terri toy, have in hand the plans for ; large sanatorium, full announce ment concerning which we hope to trive to our- readers at an earlv date. NEEDED A FLORIST Some energetic persons should establish a florist here, it would certainly pay. High Point trade alone is worth thousands of did lars. Citizens here are buving flowers from Salisbury. Durham Greensboro and other towns. WHAT ABOUT IT. What about beautifying the clay banks along the right-of-way of the Southern Railroad This question come before the Civic Department of the Worn an's Club and in turn was taken before the railroad authorities. Spring is here again, and now is the opportune time to say noth ing of their unsightly appearance which is an eye sore to every bod v. Rapid Growth of West End Take a walk out to the Belt Line and you will be surprised to see the increased activity in building and the busy section of the west end generally. With the completion of the new Highland Cotton Mills this summer 400 more employers will have to be provided for. Dwellings big and little are going up in this section, and Postmaster Ragan will have to provide a sub-station in that end of town, to give proper 'mail facilities. TO TAKE SPECIAL WORK. Dr. F. E. Perkins left last night for Allanta to attend the Mid Winter Clinic, and take a line of special work in his profession. He will be away for two or three weeks. . Wednesday Night PRICE CONCERT COMPANY One of the best attractions of the season will appear Wednes day night when the Price Con cert Company render their ' all round program. So versatile are these artists that they can appeal to the tastes of the most exacting and yet their solos and ensemble are appreciated by the sentiment ally disposed to harmony, but or ganically incapable of a tunc." Of this company the ta. Moure (N Dakota) Chronicle says: "The company especially quite won the audience not only by the excellence and brilliance of their playing, singing and, read ing, but by their delightful charm and "naturalness of manner." Admission $1.00 for adults; 25c for children. IVcbb Liquor Law as it Applies to Local Whiskey Conditions DOUBLE TRACK Washington, D. C, March 10. In doing this work grades will be reduced and much of the curvature of the present line will be eliminated. Work is tc be commenced as soon as parc- ticable and pushed to completion The construction of this double track will materially facilitate the handling of trains into ami out of Atlanta. FINE SERMONS Dr. W. C. Tyrce, pastor First Baptist church, has been preach ing a series of sermons Sunday mornings on subjects which are instructive and edifying to hi congregations. THE VETERANS On Mav 27. 28, and 29. the grand old men of the south, our veterans of the tragic four years of 01-05. will gather in annual reunion in Chatanooga. Many of these will come for the last time to a United Confederate V.eteran reunion, to follow the tattered batlc flags under which fifty years ago they fought in the ensan guined fields about this historic city. It will, for many reasons, be the most memorable reunion in the history of the United Confederate Veterans and will be an occasion that will arouse the sentiment an dtouch the heart of the now prosperous south. Special Demonstration and sale of Majestic Ranges now going on t Beeson Hardware Co. Express Company Has to Apply Only Where a Community Has Special Legislation. High Point township it seems is one of the few communities in the state that conies under the Webb Law as interpreted by the Southern Kxpress Co., which company acting under the direc tion of their X'ew York attorney, refused to deliver any packages of whiskey here .or anywhere in the township on Saturday. Other places named by the Southern Fxpress Company are Anson Burke. Cabarrus, Cherokee, Ma con and Rutherfordton counties. The ruling on High Point is on account of a special act of the legislature of 1907 which is known as the "one gallon law." and it is on acocunt of this act that the F'xpress Company refuses to de liver whisked in High Point toWnship. The Enterprise had an interview today with Mr. Sad ler, Supt. So. F.x. Co., over long distance phone and we learn that the Kxpress Company is making delicvries in the state at every point except in the localities named alove. The whole matter is to be threshed out in the courts, it seems, in cases brought by the outside liquor dealers and the ac tion Saturday is the beginning In the meantime the shipments of liquor here will be held up. 0 - Miss Annie Pryor, who has been spending a few days with Mrs. Griffin, has returned to Greensboro, Mr. and Mrs. Alvis Barnes, of Reidvsille, are visiting at the home of Mr. E.
