I, with your per il. : --ion, will pve you a few extracts lulled from the very best authori ties, which it' the young ''Bloods" will read attentively, will enlighten them in some degree as to the quali-t:- - which are surely essential to the general make up of a well-bred gentleman. Well knowing, how ever, that advice is seldom welcome, and those who need it the most like it the least. A certain dignity ot manuers is ai .-ulutely necessary to make even the most valuable characters either i.-.-pected or respectable in this woihl. W hoover is admitted or sought lor in company, upon any ot ner account man mat 01 ms merit or manners, is never respected t'a.-ie. but only made use of. We will h..e Mr. So-and-so, for he sings nicely: wo will invite Such-a-ono to our party, for he dances well; we will baTe Such -a on to go on our excursion, for he can drink a meat deal without trotting drunk, M.in y nurserymen, t'lo-e X.nth. lmil ol 1 1 1 i" siock. in on greater nimilier ol and can tell a good joke. These i Glover, ot that village, the other are all vilifying distinctions, morti-; day, a cucumber vine. IS inches lying preferances. and exclude all long, which had on it well do ideas of esteem and regard. j veloped cucumbers. The vine w.. . Dignity of manners is not only j three and one-sixteenth inch'- as ditt'ereut from pride as true : thick and one and three-sixteenth.- cur, ige is from blustering, but is absolutely inconsistent with it; for nothiug vilifies and degrades more than pride. The pretentions ofthe p"oud man are oftener treated with sneer and contempt than with in diguat ion. Abject tlattery and indiscriminate ostentation degrade, as much as in discriminate contradiction and loud mouthed debate or controversy dis- gust: but a modest assertion of one's own opinion, and a complaisant ac quiescence to other people's, pre serve dignity. Vulgar, low ex pressions, awkward motions and address implv either a verv low turn oi mind, or low education and low company. Some people cannot gain upon themselves to be easy and civil to those who are either their rivals, competitors, opposers, or to those who do not float in the same social circle with themselves, though, independently of those ac cidental circumstances, they would like and esteem them. This is very wrong, and is not characteristic of a well bred gentleman. There is nothing so delicate as a man's moral character, and nothing which it is his interest so much to preseive pure. Should he be sus pected of injustice, malignity, per ii.l . lying, etc., all the education and knowledge in the world will never procure him the esteem, Ii ieiidslnp or respect ol gentlemen. Vanity is one of the common fail ings ot inexperienced youths; guard a:iinst that kind of vanity that ilaiis a man a coxcomb or dude, a i-'iai actor hich. once acquired, is exceedingly haul to jet clear of. I fiional Convention to convene at Plymouth on the 14th of August, the Democrats of the First district cannot De caretui in selecting stanaara bearers for the comiDg campaien. This is an election of vital importance to every Democrat in the Stats, for upon this district largely depends the suscesa of the State ticket and a representation to the 49th Congress of the IJnited States is elected. Daring the last few elections in this district the contest has been close, the result frequently favor ing the Republican candidate. To avoid this jieeming carelessness in the ranks of the Democratic niassea, It is neces sary to place men befara the conven tion that can arouse eotfM' siasra, that -1 1 1 irivD full 11 ri a frmia m4 iiiiinii tr .Via ' selected at this convention. ,e should loon v t;ii lium ciiuice. iet ll HPIWl man of large public spirit, fall of push and enterprise, of acknowledged mental ability and a fluent speaker that can stir men 's souls. As such, I would offer to the Democrats of the First district the name of Col. Isaac A. Sugg. As a speaker, he has few superiors, present ing arguments in a clear, logical, in cisive and convincing manner possess ing strong determination and ambition, he would thoroughly rout his opponents and sweep the district like a cyclone. The nomination of Col.
