Total vote of this city in our sub-district taught at a season of the year when it would most benefit our children, I am informed by the chair man of the Board of Lducation that they decided by legal advice, that they had no jurisdiction over the time when the school should commence; that it was entirely under Mr. Long's jurisdiction. We ask our people to inform themselves of the school law and decide accord ingly. We would refer them to the fol lowing sections, viz: 2537 and from 2546 to 2555 pertaining to the authority and duties of the Board ,of Education. If this leaves all power 1 under Mr. Long's jurisdiction in regard to the are roughly taxed to pay a county Board of Education, the people of Craven county are feeling sorely oppressed by the man agement of the Board of Education. Here we have to say some things that we 1 egret to say, though they be true. If this is the way the county govern ment is to be administered to the poor laboring class, as a mass we will be forced to renounce the present system of county government, and the effect of 6uch tyranical rule as Mr. Long is trying in his estimated royal dignity to heap upon the people of Craven county will in a few days hence show that the poor laboring class in the county is not 60 ignorant as to their rights as freemen as it may be supposed.
