Tbe reports aixo show that the eonditioo of tbe crop is fair while for tbe same month. Way, last year, it was reported good. Tbere ia nothing in toe condition of the crop or in the decrease in acreage to indicate a better price for tbe atapie than waa paid last eeaaon. If there is any advance in price it will have to be from otber causes and not irom a abort crop unless tbe cotton belt meets with some aehoas disaster. Bat there is plenty of room for improvement in otber qa Arters which might bare a tendeocy to revive basineee and create a demand tot tbe raw mate rial and consequently an advance in price. Bat theee are remote, and will not do to calculate on. The cotton planter had better base his calculations on a low price, not higher than eight cents for middling cotton at toe home market. If he gets more than this it will be, in a measure, tbat much clear profit. THE PROHIBITION MOT EXEXT. Tbe election on Local Option last Monday doabtleee surprised many in its rults. The exercises were first class, the speaking unsurpassable, lie v. Mr. Byrd, of Morebead City, delivered tbe address and Ker. Mr. Jones, of Beaufort, and Dr. J. Wr. Sanders, of Sanders' Store, made telling speeches, interspersed with spicy and comic illustrations in behalf of tbe good children and the Sabbath scbool ot Harlowe creek Church. Miss Km ma Bell acted in tbe role ot Dame Nature on the throne of beautiful dowers, assisted bythe children in beaatifal costumes suited to the occasion. I r . N. Three beautiful little girls, tastefully dressed, and oae One looking little boy, repre sented Spring, Hammer, Autumn and Winter. We couldn't hear the speeches of each, nor tbe reply ol the Qaeeo to tbem, but it was love ly iu the extreme to look at, will long be remembered by us, and Li kmc who witnessed tbo oocasiou. Ice cream, lemonade and eon fee tioneriee, etc, were sold for tbe benefit of the school and about were tbe results ot this work. Great credit is due Mr. J. W. Be I aa superintendent ef this school. We took dinner with Mr. Kufus Bell, one of tbe oldest and miwt respected citizens of Harlowe or Carteret coanty. W e were not ac quainted when we met, bat well acquainted when we parted, and we shall visit him, his amiable wile, and lovely daughters again. Friend Henry Hall, from New Berne, was there, and Mr. Charles N bitty, from Polloksville, was on band looking hia very best; that's right Charley, that's what we'd do if we coakl. Well, we got back home after awhile and mast say our trip was one very much enjoyed by u.. The crops all along from Newport to Harlowe were very fine; cotton, corn, rice, oats, wheat, rye, pota toes and everything looked tvauti ful indeed. That prince of fun and fun making man, Juo. W. Stanton, was enough to make a sick man well iujust two minutes after you commence talking with him, he is a regular bruiser sure, and there is Billy Nasdi Bell, a nice young old man who has a tine house and farm and no one living at it or near it, because he says no one won't marrv him. A metallic brush is, undoubtedly, ;i vers easy thing with which to brush and comb the hair when one is pressed for time, but it is also a fruit ful cause of dandruff, and for that reason if for no o her. should never be used. Alwas use a coarse comb, and smooth a soft brush. Never use a fine tooth comb to remove dandruff; it only increases t he evil, and often causes ecema. It also exci.tes any ten dency to inflammation or congesta tion ot the scalp. To cleanse the scalp, soak ir for some time in oil either sweet oil or v.tselme . thn with a firm piece of flannel, well soaped, rub thoroughly o it the oily seal i', in ix i ng t he soap and oil well together. Then wet the flannel and make a good lather all oer the head. Afterward wash urh warm water, and rinse tlior oughl. I try with warm towels,: and let the hair hang loose until drv. A little castor oil should af j terward be rubbed into the han to replace the oi 1 that has been re : moved by the washing. j Owing to a deficiency of oil. rue! nils nf the hair often split. He received a severe wound, but we learn that he is now doing well. George Jones who was convicted and sentenced to six months' im prisonment for illicit distilling escaped f rom Trenton jail last week. He said he was very sick and the jailor allowed him to walk in the passage. He soon recovered suf ficiently to make his escape through an unfastened window. The .Magistrates elected the fol lowing t ommissioners Monday: Lewis r.ynum, Jas. C. Dryan, Jos. A Smith, Cyius Prown and Jas. K. Harrison.
