We don't know what Dr. Barker would do with the cast of a turnip or a dead man's head, but we do know- that when he measures and puts his hands upon a live head he can tell something about the character of the person who carries it. The follow ing is from an exchange: Some time ago an English gentleman found a large turnip in his field of the ehapo of a man's head, and with the resemblance of the features of a man Struck with curiosity, he had a cast made of it, and sent the cast to a phre nologist, stating that it was taken from the head of a celebrated professor, and requested au opinion thereon. After sitting in judgment, it was reported that it denoted a man of acute mind and deep research, that he had the organ of quick perception, and also of perseverance, with another that indi cated credulity. The opinion was trans mitted to the owner of the cast, with a letter requesting, as a particular favor, that he would send them the head. To this he politely replied that be would w ilKngly do so, but he was nrcrirtpH xl meet- 1 j V , " laLAJij "i eaieu it cne ; "'V otioie wun tneir mutton at dinner. INSTON, N. C.
