Weekly Review cf the Trade. Nkw YoKK, March 23. R. G. Dun & Co.'s weekly review of trade will say: April is close at hand, and some anxiety as to the money market is usual at this season. The banks have been sending large amounts to the interior through deposits at the treasury and isssues of silver certificates elsewhere, and there has also been a heavy demand for Phil adelphia exchange, so that a further decline in reserves is expected. The Western and Southern demand for money has been intensified by a desire to ship pr.xlucts before the Interstate act and the change of rates go into , ttlect. Though the demand at Chicago! is reported diminishing, rates are (3 to S percent. All the circumstances make it comparatively easy for an operator to produce tight nvmev if he pleases. The Treasury has taken in 6l,7u0.noO more gold than it has paid out during the past week, but has added 3. 000. Con to the outstanding silver certificates and put out some legal tenders also. The reduction of rates by the Bank of Eng land and the abundance of money there favor continued care in this market, as does the later foreign tra le. the exports from New York for three weeks being '. ? per cent larger than last year, with imports of 7j perc. nt larger. The Feb ruary oflicial report shows an increase of f2.-00.0O1 in exports over last year, the amount being the largest since but the importi were the largest on rr cord for many years in February, and the excess of imports was S-4.-14.3", the gol I import for the month exceed ing the imports by 5L"33.7l-'3. The In terstate bill causes great activity in shipment. of dry goods and other mer ehandise to anticipate the change of rates April o. but this means dullness after that date, and complaints of in dustrial an 1 commercial inactivity respecting business that depends on future rates grow- more numerous. Gen. Fink thinks tl.e law will tend o Lb.- er.i-hing of small, by larger deal ers, an 1 Mr. Adams thinks it hastens the swallowing of smaller by longer roa Is. Months must elapse before the effects of the act can be understood. Rep. i ; s regard ing the iron business are not favorable, imports evi leetly having a depressing effect. British shipments of iron and steel to this country- were 417.4 j3 tons in February and '.'4. l"il tons in January. Prices of the kinds largely imported show weakness, and the Philadelphia market is rendered more feverish by the countermanding of some orders in consequence of a strike in the Delaware works. AVheat has declined one cent, corn one-half a cent and oats a shade, with unusually small sales and large re ceipts. Cotton has advanced one quarter and coffee one-half cent. The business failures occurring throughout the country during the last seven days number for the L'nite.i States. 21-. for Canada. 4i. Total. 250 compared with 2'.0. last week and 221 for the correspond ir.g w,vki'f last year. Inter-State Commerce Commission. AY Asl ! I N . .T 'N . March 24.
