On our flrft pane will be found an article copied from the Wilmington Star, the writer of which insists that the A. ft N. C B. and the NCR should be consolidated and leased to the R ft D for ninety-nine years. The consolidation is something that ought to have been done long years ago, but it is not syyad State policy to lease to a corporation that is trying to build up a terminal point in another State, and has but little interest in North Carolina sav e and except for the purpose of control ling her carrv ing trade. We endorse the views of thia corre spondent in regard to the State officials appointed by partisan politicians, man axing works of internal improvements. ' bat why cot consolidate the two roads ! and lease or sell them to the C. F. ft V. . V R , which, it is said, is a distinctive North Carolina toad, and whose owners I have lare interest in North Carolina? Why not unite the A. ftN.C. with the C V. Sc. Y. A corporation that will not encourage shipments through North Carolina p irts but on the other band do their utmost to prohibit th. m, it not the one to which to turn over the entire railroad interest of the State. El itoh Journal: I am pleased to see thot juu are urging the people of our city to aid in the holding of a "Came. Fish and Oyster Fair. The advantage to be derived by the holding of such a Fair are many. First, it will show to the Northern people who Mr. Patrick assures us he will induce to come down, that our climate is equal to any in the South, and that our hotel accommoda tions at Hotel Albert are tqaal to that of any in hotel iu Florida; they will also see that the gunning and fishing will surpass that of any section in the Union. Few people even in our own State are awars that wo have be; r, deer, lurkejs. geese, duck, partridge and many other varieties of birds. IP e Northern visitors who visitour Fair will come again annually and be a source of revenue to our people. .Second, the exhibition of cur fish and oysters will be of a ivantage to that industry. It will advertise to our S:ate and to out side people that we have them in excel lent variety and superior quality , and dealers will receive more orders and our rish will command a higher price Tnird. if we have three thousand ceople to visit our Fair they will ipend on an average of five dollars each which will be a total of fifteen thousand dollars left by them in the city. This amount of money is worth having; this money will aid us in paying taxes and other wig" be of ad vantage. A big advantage will come to us in the way of an adver tisement to our place and Jrawing the attention of would-be settlers and manufacturers.. I feel confident that each and every one of our people will see the advan tages of the proposed Fair and lend a helping band. Tne sum asked is verv small and our peop'e should show a spirit of enterprise by putting twice the amount asked for into the work. The gentlemen of the Gun Club propose to do all the work without charge. We have the assurance of Mr. Patrick's co operation and we must not miss such opportunities. NnvvBERN. Newbern, N.
