But we muat iiBJrrel witb them too. There i the town located within eight mile of La GraDg on the A. & N. C. R , yet they have their mail dragged j over a heavy aandy road three times a wek from Ooldtboro, a distance of about eighteen mile. Trenton, about ; the eame d la Lance from the railroad. ha a double daily mail to and from th railroad and a daily to New Berne aero the cotAtry via Pollokirille. Now White Hall, in connection with the Spring, which are within a few hun dred yard of the village, ia almoet as important a plaoe aa Trenton, save and exoept that Trenton is the county site. But the fact that they have gone on so long with such mail facilities is positive proof that they are not aa enterprising a the people of Trenton. Gentlemen, get up a petition at once for a daily mail. Do not Interfere with the route you already have to Goldsboro. Simply get up a petition for the route to I-a Grange once a day: set forth all the facta in regard to the amount of busi ness, the Spring, the farm ing country in the vicinity , etc. , etc. . and we will almost guarantee the route can be ob tained. Iet the mail leave White Hall daily In time to meet the train from the weet and you can read every night, if you want to, the daily papers of New Berne, Goldsboro, Wilmington, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte, Rich mond, Waahington City and Baltimore on the aame day of publication. Such a route would be hailed with delight by all visitor to the Springs, and the proprietor ought not to rest until he haa it established. Now we most give a little attention to the farmer, who were very kind to us while in the neighborhood. We are under special obligations to Major D. 8. Davi, T. A. Rouse, Alonzs Rouse, Col. N. B. Whitfield; in fact, all the farmers in the neighborhood and their good wive were anxious for us to spend a day wiih them. They acknowledged that "times are bard," but they cannot forget their old time hospitality and may the Lord bless them in their efforts to better their condition which a series of short crop have brought about. Th farmer in this community hive a just cause of complaint about getting their produce to market, yet it seems that the complaint can be e.is:ly remedied. From Kinston to Goldsboro the public road runs on a sand ridge and the residences of the farmers are alao on this ridge while the farms lay between the ridge and therivtr, and tin farms they are: some of them are subjfCt to oveitlow, but a large majority are not. From about Major Davis' place up to White Hall the farms are tine and very productive, and here is where tbey are troubled about trans portation. Whether they go to Klnf ton, I.t (.range or Goldsboro, they have to haul their produce, upon an average, from twelve to twenty miles over very heavy sandy roads. Now w here is the remedy " Why, nature has pruvidtd that in Neuso rivr. Many of these farms border on the river and if a steamboat, something like the Blanche of thia city will be when she is re paired, was put on and nyular tripe made for-cne year every farmer would mistered iir S H ..Wind ley , a young J soon heroine convinced of his folly in -mir. fr -ni Trenton, was in the city hauling cotton or other produce, and la tt ok and report that he feels iur . would ship it by boat. Mt-xxrs. .Vuiin it- JIarer: Gentlemen You can confer a benefit on your section of the country by giv ing publicity to the fact that it will pay any body to manufacture rectified pine tar and sell it as a roofing pitch to be used in place of coal tar pitch which is getting very scarce and is cornered and controlled by a pool of men noted for the dictatorial policy they employ to their customers, the roofers. Itis far superior to coal tar in every way. All that is to make a demand for it is its introduction to roofers, with an assurance that they can get as much as they want. I myBelf will go into the rooting business here if I can get that aasura ic. and I think that with little pains I can sell it besides to other roofers.
