Corn Flour
Mr J. M. Patrick, a very social and
e-ultured gentlemnn from Lenoir Insti
tute. Lenoir county, is in the city for a
week or two visiting relatives. Mr.
Patrick brought with him an ear of
corn, the variety of which is destined to
become extensively used. He also has
a sam pie of tbe corn ground into what
appears to be a medium quality of Hour.
When kneaded , It has all the adhesive
ness of wheaten lliur, and when baked
it can scarcely bt detected from the
best biscuit Mr. Patrick does not
claim that it r qua Is the fioest fiiur, but
says that it ii good substitute for the
average tljurused and thit in swamp
lands this corn is very prol itic. He
thinks it should be introduced especial
ly in the counties of Pamlico. Beaufort
and Hjde where wheat does not
thrive on account of the rust.
Another industry Mr. Patrick tells
us about is the growing of cane. Be
sides for home consumption, he thinks
it can be readily marketed and made a
profitable crop. The syrup to a great
extent can be made to take the place cf
sugar and in no way can it be classed
along with the store article of molasses
that has had all the sugar extracted from
it.

Mr. J. M. Patrick, from Lenoir

From tip to tip of wing it measured

this midnight prowler was again seek
