Friday waa the biggeet day .'or hipping Uuek New Berne baa ever had. There was a oontinual st re-am of carts. wagons loaded with potatoes acd beans pouring down Crsven street to the wharves from early morning till the ailing hoar of the last steamer. Three steamers loadsd to their full capacity, o'e&red Friday, and the A. & N. C. railroad truck train carried out a large shipmsnt. Tha Old Dominion eteamer Manteo took oat a cargo of abovjt 3,000 barrels of potatoes and 2.000 boxes of beans, beatda other freight and passengers. Thia waa the largest cargo of truck ever taken from New Berne . The steamer Annie, of the E C D. tine, took out 2,600 barrels of pocatoes and 300 tjoxea of bean-. The Escht. of this line, took cut 1 600 barr-:.- of potatoes snd 2.100 boxes of beans. Tbe truck train carried off from along tha line of tbe railroad between 3, COO and 4.000 packages of beans and po tatoes. It is ssfe to say that 14,500 packages of truck, beans and potMoes, left this section, the greater part of it from the fsrmt surrounding New Berne, y ster dsy. No small amount of money must have been distributed in the commu aity. It must have coat at least S3, 000 to pick the beaos snd potatoes, and the expenditure for boxes, for hauling the truck to the depots, snd for getting it aboard the boats snd trains, must have amounted to about as much more. So there was (making a rough estimate) between $6,000 and $7,000 distributed among about 8,000 people, mostly col ored, in this community yesterday, by ths truck farmers. Tbe laborers made a ''good thing" out of it, tbe transportation companies were ia clover, and we hope the ship pers will strike the market right. A Klir of HorUi Carolina i Mr. a P. E. Other ministers present and some of the official members of the Methods: church spoke in tender words of tho dt ported. The songs sung on the occasion were appropriate and did not f&il to touch the hearts of the audience. Tho building was heavily draped in mourniDg. At the rear of the altar was an cval pieco of drapery encircled with the following wording in white letters: '"Servant of Cud, Well Done." In tho centre were inscribed the three large letters "J. E. Two new residences have been erected re cently and three others are nearing completion. Mies Burcice Daugherty, a charming young lady from Lenoir, who has been visitiDg Misses Id a and Debbie Hawkins, returned home yesterday , accompanied by Miss Debbie. Died suddenly at his residence near Cove on the 16th, Mr. Martin Jones, 87 years. He waa a very consistent member of the Methodist church. Oar truckers -have finished ebipping their peas to the Northern market, and are wearing rather long faces in conse quence of the short crops and still shorter prices. They commenced ship ping potatoes on the 20th, which is about ten days earlier than last year crop about an average. Corn is looking fairly well, though much complaint is heard about the ravages of insects on bottom lands. The cotton crop is exceptionally promising, and the dry weather -has been quite favorable in enabling the farmer to work it and thus get ahead of the graes. The neach crorj ia a failure, while the apple crop will give us a half yield. A deer, being hard pressed by the hounds, sought refuge in a pool of water in Mr. Wm. Daugherty s field, which was quickly dispatched by an axe in the hands of his little daughters, Misses Carrie and Penny. There are no cases of sickness to re port, and by the way we think we can claim the healthiest section in Eastern North Carolina. Forty Thousand Visitors Addressed by Gov. Fovt le and Gen. It is estimated that forty thousand people visited Hollywood Cemetery today, where the memorial exercises were held and the graves of Confederates covered with flowers. From the Confederate and the Pickett monuments snd many mounds Confederate battle digs waved all day long. Many of the old Southern officers who came here to attend the Gen. Lee ceremonies were present. Gov. McKin ney presided, and addresses were made by Got. Fowle. of North Carolina, and Gen. Fitzhugh Lee. Thousands have visited the Lee monu ment today and hundreds of old sol diers and scores of citizens called on Gen. Longstreet to pay theii respects. LEMON ELIXIR A Pleasant Lemon Drink. The Preventive of a Terrible Dlseese. INo disorders, excepting the most deadly forms of lung disease, involve such a tremendous destruction of or ganic tissue as those which fasten upon the kidneys. Such maladies, when they become chronic and none are so liable to assume that phase completely wreck the system. To prevent this ter rible disease, recourse should be had. upon the first manifestations of trouble. to Hoetetter's Stomach Bitters, which experience has proved to be highly ef fective as a means of imparling tone and regularity to the organs of urina tion, aa well as to the liver, stomach and bowels. Another beneficial result of this medicine, naturally cons- quent upon ita diuretic action, is tho elimina tion from the blood of impurities which beget rheumatism, neuraUia, gout, dropsy and other maladies. Mtdyett, of New river, and Miss Lina Jones, daughter of Capt. Harden Jones, of this place. Esq D. G. Ward officiating. It was the slickest runaway we ever knew. The parties were married in 100 yards of Capt. Jones' house, but not one on the land knew a word of it until an hour afterwards. Rev. J. T, Burnett, our beloved pastor here, is sick. Ho had a case of mumps, but got better, and we ara afraid he turned out too soon. He is one of the beel men wo ever saw, and with a few exceptions ho is loved by all of Swans buro people. He is an excellent preacher. We phppose there will be something done here on the Fourth of July next ion "c know what as yet. Our saw mill men, Messrs.
