Mr. Russell, opposed the bill said it would be detrimental to the tobacco interest in this State. Mr. Lucas said the question was, if we pass this law will it benefit the boys of North Carolina. It is not as to whether it will lower or raise the price ot tobacco; I dislike to see a small boy with a cigarette in his mouth; if 1 thought this bill would break the boys of North Carolina from the infamous habit of cigarette smoking, I would vote for the bill if it destroy ed every cigarette factory in North Carolina, lam going to vo'e for this measure, not knowing that it will have the desired effect, but hoping and having an honest and sincere desire that it may do good. The Legisla ture may pass a thousand oyster laws and they will be but chaff nn ; less some sensible machinery is ! enacted for their enforcement, j Our farming is very back ard, lowing to continous and excessive rains. Labor too is very scarce, can't you induce some of your spare labor to come this way. Tbe oyster business has absorbed much oi our best farm labor. Mir. Z ick Credle one of our County Commissioners has tender ed his resignation. W. From Oklahoma. Editor Journal: I will attempt to give you a description oi" where 1 live, and the country around. Terhaps some of the Journal readers would like to hear from this part of the woild. I livo in the Southern portion two miles south west of Norman, near the south Canadian River. As I haNo :iut travelled over a wiy largo portion of t his Territory onlv bv railroad I will only speak of the portion which I live, three fourths ot it is prairie, level, just rolling enough to be natural drain. Rich and alluvial soil, easy brought into cultivation, will make fair crops the first year ou the sod. It takes two years to put in a farm or put it in good condition, the second ear will make as much as it will ever make, most of the sod crop last year made half a bale to acre and no work except breaking, and planting corn on sod or new broke land does not do so well unless it is seasonable, then It will make from twenty to twenty-five bushels to the acre without any work. Lands that were broken last spring, twelve months ago and rebroke last spring made from twenty five to forty bushels to the acre. Our fall crops were good and especially the turnip crop. The Topeka Kansas papers say we have nothing but cotton seed and tur nips to eat. This may be the condition of the Kansas scum in the northern part of this Territory but not so with Cleveland Co. We are mostly southern Democrats with some get up and get about us, and not dependant ou Kansas. For she has been crying wolf ever since June, fho.se papers lie on the people or any other paper that says Cleveland Ca. has nothing to eat. We raise turnips that weighed 12 pounds, potatoes that weighed y pounds without manure. Now Mr. Editor it is true our corn crop was short owing to the new broke land and the small drouth we had. Farmers are putting forth tbeir j energies breaking and rebreaking their land. People are coming in from Texas and other parts of the world allmost every day, I have met with new comers, but I never heard one say that this was not a fine country. This is not the prom ised land spoken of in the Bible.hut it promises all a man wants if he wiil work. January has been un pleasant, rain and snow, but not very cold. Would be glad to be at the Fair aud eat some of those fine oysters and fish. Yours, It. J. Brock. Norm an. Cleveland Co. Ok. Ter. Feb. 1st 1S01. Stonewall Items. The ONster excitement has about subdded and the tongers are ph ing their vocation quite success fully. We have a curiosity in the way of a blind man who lives 11 miles below our town, he will and does hitch his mule to a cart aud drive to our place as correctly as any one in his neighborhood, comes to C. H. Fowler's store, hitches his team and walks in as correctly as any one Nvho cau see. It is remarkable to see him pass any one on the road or take the forks of the road with perfect ease.
