Why, sir, I am astonished beyond measure that a party witu a record so utterly vile and wretched and wicked should be so lost to ali shame and decency as to make an appearance before the loyal people of Iowa. "They should be trampled in the wilderness of oblivion, aud never more return." When these declarations were thrown in Mr. Wia7er's face in the National House of Representa tives, he admitted their utterance and said: "I have no doubt that I uttered if not the words contained in the extracts read before this Ilouse, words equally as forcible and substantially similar. I have nothing to take back with regard to my course on the issues that arose ont of the war." mil I hint Party New l oniier -W. I. Tlie boaid ot County Commis sioners deeded on -Monday last to advertise b r proposals to build a court house in Hay boro. The build ing to be wcoderi one. two stories high, Pi feet wide and 80 feet l.ng. The third party has its notices up lor a convention on the Pith, to appoint delegates to the state Con greijiiional and Senatorial Conven tions. J. P. Sawyer is chairman of the Executive Committee. They invite al! paries to .join them. What kind of a circus wonld it be if all parties should join it? They are W-'tng strong on getting all the c-. liie.l v t . Well, we shall see v. Ii -,r we si. all st e. Democratic Ciuba aie being iormed all over the county. The one at Stonewall has all the Demo crat voters in it but three. One straight Republican has come out and joined the club. Hurrah for Democrats at Stonewall, the club at this place has about two-thirds of all the Democrats at this pre cinct: we hear equally good ntwd from Trent and Pamlico, the Demo crats tf Pamlico rneau business. Cleveland will carry the counry by the largest onjonty it wi-.s ever carried. . Iv;e W. Miller ha.s at last come our aud showed where be was. It took him a long time to doit and he beat aronud the bush mightily before he got to it. Everybody knew where be was before. -Nobody was disappointed in him, but that is one thing he ought to have told his Pro. Wdson when he wrote the letter lor him, because every body knows that Ivie did not write it,) and that is to say nothing about the oyster monopoly because the. entry books here shows that. Ivie is one of the monopoly as his brother Wilson terms it .Mr. Miller has been entering up the oyster grounds himself so the records show. Well, Ivie didn't know what Wilson was going to write about so he is excusable. One thing we noticed in Mr. Miller's letter was, his endorsement of Leroy Harper for the House and James F. Brinson for the Senate. He says with tterxi the country would be safe. We rise to ask him why didn't Brinson s ive the State the last time. The only big thing we know that he did was to pass a prohibition law that would not hold water, and to vote to pav a bonus to Josephus Daniels for the public printing of about five thousand dol lars when others were ready to take the contrast for it, for five thousand less, but to save the country Jimmie thought it was necessary to make Mr. Daniels, a present of five thous and dollars, for the poor tax-payers to pay. Well, we don't carejabout being saved in that way, so J mimic and Leioy can stay at home. we nave neara several names mentioned by the Democrats for representation in the legislature, to wit: K.'L. W oodard, W. T. Mayo W. E. Hooker and W. T. Caho they are all good Democrats and either one of them can bo elected If Carlo could be induced to accept it the Democrats of this district could do no better than to nominate him for the Senate. He is the strongest man in this county that the Democrats can nominate, be sides polhug the Democratic vote he can poll a large Republican vote The Democrats and Republicans in this county are all satisfied that he would look out for the county's in terest. lie has been to the Senate twice and no fault, has ever been found of anything that he has done. The first time he went he settled the county-seat and court house question satit-f ictory to the entire county and at the same time showed that he would not let self interest prevent him Irom doing right. He has been the means, of settling the debt between Craven and Pamlico on a basis oi less than 23 per cent, for the debt was about forty thousand dollars, and le managed to get it settled for eleven housand dollars on five years time, and without interest, and while the board of County Commissioners are entitled to credit for it, still they say that it was through and by the work of Caho that it was accomp lished. He is a Democrat as true as steel and would make such a canvass as no other man in the county could make. This county is strongly against prohibition and Caho has been with the people all along on that question, and if he were nominated, his friends white and black in every precinct would go to work for him, and elect him by a rousing majority, so put Caho on the Senatorial ticket and either Mayo, Hooker or Woodard for the House, and then Mr. Miller can be assured that the county will be safe in the hands of Democrats, at least who will protect the interest of all parties, white and colored. Both Democrat and Republicans in Pam- co wonld be glad to see j ist such a ticket in the lield. The Ccnnty Democratic Execu tive Committee met at Bayboro on Saturday, July .'Joth, and decided to hold the county n minating con vention on Saturday, October 22ad, and tha primaries on the loth of October, and make a red-hot can vass from then until the election.
