Fayette Fraaklia, a negro seventeen years -d age, wao arrested in Mitchell county yesterday morning, charged with, felonious assault on two white - women in Decatur and Mitchell counties. When Sheriff Hurst went to dinner at the home of one of the negro's victims he chained the pri soner to the buggy in which he was taking him; to jail. While the sheriff was eating two hundred men took the negro into .tha woods and he has not been seen since. He was undoubtedly lynched. The accused was identi fied by one of hia victims. M.ij r Thrnias Brown Venable, one of the oldest and most prominent members cf the Granville County Bar, died this evening at 5 o'clock. Mnjor Ven able was the son of Hon. Abram W. Venabie, one of the most noted members of Congress from North Carolina before the war, and had himself occupied many responsible places for his State in civil and military life. Beaten VHtu Straps FoET SMITH, Ark , Juno 22. Reports reached here some days ago of unusual brutality In the In dian territory. It was said that the deputies in evicting miners and their families from the territory used straps and beat them unmer cifully, the helpless victims having no redress. The reports were not at first be lieved, but to-day eye witnesses of the cruelty arrived here and say that the cruelties committed were shocking. Grat indignation is ex pressed at this action on the part of the deputies iu the territory. Stabbed ia Eiht Tlaces. High Point, N. C, June 23. (Special.) To-night about 3 o'clock Joe Jackson, a white man and des perate character, while resisting arrest, stabbed Chief-of-Police Hoffman in eight different places. The wounds arc of a serious na ture.
