ATTAC KK.H WITH KSIVKHA PISTOL S. J. H iuim, Fj). at Prontluent Young; Attorney of Kinston Overpowered it u d Bndly Cut by Four Stalwart Ufa. Tuesdav id our netghhortown. Kins ton, Mr. N. J House, an able anil promi nent young attorney of thut place, was maliciously attacked by Mr. Levi Daw son and h:s thn-e sons. Mr. Rouse as overpowered by them, knocked down, and hud his clothing riddled w ith their knives. His body wrtscutin two or three places, lait almos- miraculously neither proved to be serious. Also during the encounter one of the assailants drew a revolver and snapped it at Mr. Rouse. It failed to tire and was immediately snatched awuy by a gentleman who was endeavoring to quell the trouble. Our informant says that the difficulty arose over supplementary proceedings that were being takeu in favor ol creditors to exam'n: into the business transactions of the Dawson's, tne examination being by order of the Superior court, before the clerk and by request of Mr. Dawsoa his daughter's examination was at the store. Afttr the examiiiiit o i, as Mr. Rousa and ihe oiheis were leaving, tne accusation was made by the Dawson's that Mr. Rouse had insulted the young lady and the at tack by all four, with the weapons, was made upon him as above stated al though one of the attorneys for Mr. Dawson insisted to them that Mr. House had said nothing in the examination but what was perfectly courteous. The attack appears to have boo : not only brutal and cowardly, but deliberate ly premeditated. The Messrs Daw.-on's were taken befin the M iyor and placed under a $'J"iO bond i each. They waived examination. IX T If KIR NEW QIARTERM. Jf. Hahn A t'o's Xf Plaee of BiinlnfM A II antlHom e and Convenient One. Messrs. M. Mr. Hege sold the noble animal, V n tor Uruc ol the Itirnier breed which he- exlubiteel at thei last Ka-.t Carolina Fair in New 15erne to Mr. Kj gene Vaughn of niston for 250. lie was then twelve months old. Twenty varieties cf poultry are brexl in these yards the list is as folleiws; Brah inas, light and ehuk; Cochins, buff, white and partritlge; Plyinouth Rocks, barreei and white; Black Ijangshans, Indian games, Black Minorca; Ieg-lioms, brown and white; Wyandottes, silver ami w hite; Houdans; Bantams, black breaste I reel game and buff Cochin; anel Polish, white breasted black and reel caps. Among these chickens are a number which could not be purchase I for les; than fifty dollars each. The proprietors claim that their estab lishment is the largest and most complete of its kind in the South and we do not believe the claim will be successfully dis puted. Visitors from other states have de clared that a view of the inmates of the numerous yarels is about equal to a visit to a regular poultry show, aud yet all vis itors arc eorelially welcomed tree of charge. Four varieties of phaesants are kept. These arc the golelen, silver, Lilly Amherst and Mongolian. Those who have nol vieweel these bright hued bids have but little ielesi of how beautiful anil attractive they are. The pet stock embraces Angora Him alayan. Mr. Ilige had not studied uu on frog culture before coming to Xew Berne but having a suitable place for the purpose just back of his poultry jards anel clog kennels, he has investigated the business until he is becoming as en thusiastic over that branch ot his business as over any other part of it. One of his latest acquis'u ions ou frog literature is an extended newspaper ac count of a frog farm in California on w hi li the frogs are raised by the niidiou, the largest of which bring nine dollars a elozeu anel Irom that tlown lo one dollar a dozen.
