The distance along Brown sound between Swansboro and New Biver is twentyr-fivc miles, and Mr. Henderson informs us that in that length of territory, between fifteen and twenty thousand barrels i f turpentine are made every year. He tells us farthermore the very agreeable fact to know that the peo ple of Swansboro county are firmly attached to New Berne as a naval store market, because they have always found the buyers are willing to pay the highest market prices for whatever they send or bring. While here Mr. Henderson laid in additional supplies of groceries, hardware, furniture and drygoods renewed his subscription to Tin-: Jot'KXAL and 'placed an advretise nient in the Wkeki.y. A few days afterwards news leak ed out that she had murdered the child, and on last Saturday, the coroner, Mr. B. L. Kellum, was summoned, a jury was formed, and the child dug up. The inquest will take place. The jury was composed of J. A. Pittman, D. G.Ward. M. YV. Heady, Ful. V. Morton, Maj Kussell and Jas. M. Ambrose, col, with Dr. F. H. Blount as medical examiner. The jury, on Saturday evening found the negro woman, Mary Lamb, guilty of murder. Dipeuty sheriff H. A. Jarman came down from Jacksonville ami carried her to jail there. The jury found the skull of the cniiu orosen auu men venuei. was, that they believed the child was killed, and from the evidence given, ,, the mother did it. ; The murder was committed on the l.ilh of last December, and the body was exhumed last.
