C, December 29. f State Treasurer Worth today issued the statement of banks in North Caro lina and it is a moBt remarkable one. It shows that in 71 days there has been an increase in their resources of nearly half million dollars. There are 44 State banks, 32 private banks and 6 savings banks, making 73 in all. The total re sources are $11,021,295. Capt. W. H. Day accepts the superin- tendency of the penitentiary. Mr. J. K. Tillery of Halifax has agreed to be the manager of the State farms. Democrats will be given places as rapidly as possi ble. Capt. Day will take an inventory of all the property of the penitentiary From tbe report of the retiring superin tendent these are the following stores on hand: Cotton, 1,031 bales, estimated at $31 a bale, 40.551. This will be devoted to paying the $26,000 borrowed from the State Treasurer. Corn, 5,000 barrels at $2 a barrel, $10,- 000. The corn crop will be 15,000 bar rels, but 10,000 barrels will be consumed and 5,000 sold. Wheat in mills at Weldon, ,r,;!94 bush els at 75 cents a bushel, $4,045. Peanuts, 7,800 bushels at 55 cents a bushel, $4,200. Rice, $10,000 worth.
