their work; ll will reclaim Ibe wtywerd

railroad southweslward from Brevard
ami that it has reached Faalaloe, t)
miles distant. From that point to tb
lovely sapphire country the Toxaway
Company will build a turnpike, or
rather is building It, and on this when
macadamir.ed automobiles will be opera
ted. It will thus be a novelty in North
Carolina. But ii is not expected that
the automobiles can be put In use this
year.
A queer thing will be noticed in the
last map issued that of 1807. There
are two Virgilinas, both on the Atlantic
,V Danville Railroad. Now there can't
be two, and which I s the right one?
From the latter a railroad has "been
buili to the rich copper ore beds in Per
son county.
. Judge Purnell has a particularly In
teresting and odd case before him. Geo.
W. Cobb, a banker, of Elizebeth City,
made an assignment in bankruptcy. He
gwoie bis estate was worth over $60,000
when ho was adjudged a bankrupt. Be
fore be was adjudged a bankrupt he had
executed a bond to his wife in which he
agn ed lo pay ber f 'J5 a month as an
nuiiy during his life and also during the
same period to pay her $12 50 a month
for pioperty which he occupied. When
he, went into bankruptcy he stopped
making these payments His wife does
not ciaim any of the $3,000 penally, but
that she is entitled to file her claim for the
annuity and rental during Cobb's life,
and that the same based upon Ibe Stale
mortality table, amounts to $3,872, Cobb
h iving 10J years yel to live, according
lo those tables. The referee decided in
favor of Mrs. Cobb. Judge Purnell lakes
a dilferenl vieyV of case, holding that
the referee's decision would be unjust to
ti e other creditors; that what is to ac
crue in the future is not a debt due under
the terms of the bankruptcy law, as
