Kalkioh, January 14. -Toiay nearly
all of tbe long session of the House was
consumed in the discussion of the bill,
increasing the Governor's salary from
three to four thoueand dollars per an-
num.
The bill finally passed ; by the close
I vote of .15 to 52, and was ratified soon
after, so it increases the salary of the
I next Governor, Charles B. Aycock, who
I Is Inaugurated, tomorrow.
In the Senate there was some discus
sion over the bill to grant a blanket
charter to the Whitney Reduction Com
pany, with power to increase its capital
slock to ten million dollars.
A substitute was offered by the cora
mittoe on the original bill, which gave
! the company the right to condemn lands
I in towns, or any where, for railroads of
any kind.
The substitute passed by a vote of 35
to 3.
