prominent citizens acted as pallbearers.

A peculiar accident occurred on Hills
boro street last evening. A street car
coasting down the hill going to the Fair
grounds struck a Jersey cow on the
track. The cow was instantly killed but
the car passed over her body without
even being derailed.
The time for listing taxes in this coun-

next week. Tbe listers estimate that
over $150,000 worth of real estate has
not been given in. They also believe
that the personal property will show a
falling off of between $200,000 and $250
000 from the previous year. This is due
they think, to investors placing their
money in non-taxable securities. The
assessors have completed tbelr work in
the city and are now assessing the out
side property of the township. They
expec) an Increase of a million dollars in
the valuation over the previous assess
ment. ,

It is probable that at this meeting action

Ernest Haywood, that Hocutt, on of

ber. Acting Solicitor Walter E. Daniel
sooght to file an affidavit but It was not
allowed, the Judge saying that where
the defendant file affidavit for a con
tinuance, counter affidavit is not allowed
under the law.
The affidavit which Daniel sought to,
lie says the testimony of witnesses Ho-
cut and rkhmitz will be found untrue
and .that their characters will be at
tacked. .
