A happy new jear to all, eipeclal!y the "Journal" readers. 1 As usual, we had a pretty good Christ mss, plenty to eat and drink, but very little whiskey, no body drunk or disor derly, and for the first time no fire works, ' not even the usual llttls fire crackers. The merchants wouldn't pay the tax on fire works, so hid none. Two Christmas trees, one In each of the leading churches, Bsptlst and II E church South. - ? There were two trees In tach church, instread of one, as was the usual form and the exercises were fine, especially In the Methodist cburch The pro gram for that chnroh was arranged by Urs Maude Woodhull and was some thing new for Swansboro, we think they called It "Cantata" or "around the world with Santa Claus," about forty children all dressed In pretty uniforms with spiked hats for boys, and crowns and flags for girls. Then a company of drummer boys besting their little drums to good tnnsie on organ' by Mtsi Daisy Pittman, assisted vocally by Miss Lulu Hatsell, Mrs Maude Woodhull and others There were two Smta Clauses, one so Impostor, who acted his part well, the other the real "Santa Claus" dressed as a Santa should be except mat-k. Mr George Hatsell was the impostor, and Mr Bryan Hatsell Jr mas the seal Pacta, he looked like he had just come out o( a snow storm. The other trees In the Baptist church were equally pretty, filled with choice snd costly presents, costing from one penny to five dollars each, the one in M R Church was' on Christmas Eve night, in the Baptist church wss Christ mas night.- Among the visitors here were M lasts Ruth Howard of Harlowe, Cora Hender son of Hubert, Lizzie Ennett - snd Isora Jones of Cedar point, Daisy Ma rine of Marines, Mrs Sue Pittman and Miss Mamie Wynne of Wards Mill, Mrs Sudle Moore, nee Frazelle of Rocky Mount, Snd Messrs George Duffy of Hew Bern, George Kirkman of New Tork, R. O. Foster of Virginia, and many others There was one drunk and down in the surburbs that of a good old colored man named William Fare. He took on too much of the juice, got drunk, fell out of vehicle In to a ditoh of water and but for timely presence of friends, would have gone to the bone yard by drown ing or freezing as it was very cold. Now Bill says "I'm just done with liquor f r ever. We had two marriages, one Christmas night, the other on Sunday morning, December 27th, the first was Mr David Hall of South Carolina to Miss Maggie Piner, of this place, Rev C E Edward?, officiating, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Elijah Piner. Also, Mr Henry Canaday was married to Miss Carrie Stanley from the couutry, but as this wss a walk runaway match, the couple came to town and called on Esq , DGWard at his house soon Sunday morning, and were politely made one for good or bad, and tbey went on their way rejoicing, for all's fair In love and war, and love laughs at locksmith's you know.' :r."Xr ' - Mr O B Jarman of Jacksonville, who was also a visitor, and Mr Clenn Free man took two of our youuc ladles to Jacksonville last Monday night to a dan clng party, the ladles were, Kisses Daisy Pittman and Flora Mattocks. Mr Dry Hatsell went also as the single maa of honor.
