Bills were intro duced in the Senate, to amend Charter of New Bern; to prevent fire insurance companies from limiting commissions to agents who receive from other insurance companies; to provide for annotating the statutes; to abolish the pilotage laws for the Cape Fear river. Bills passed to pay half fees to officers and witnesses in cases where no true bill is found in Jones county; to authorize executors and administrators to provide grave stones; to amend the liquor law for Iredell; to better regulate life in- surance Companies; to regulate the sale of concentrated feed stuffs; to prevent sale of adultrated unbranded goods; to incorporate the Methodist Protestant College in N. C: to turn into the general fund a third of the dispensary profits in Pitt county;-to regulate the practice of veterinary medical surgery. The bill to define the place and sale of intoxicating liquor was set as special order for Monday, also the bill to prevent the delivery of liquors in prohibition territory under fictitious names. A bill passed to amend the law regarding building and loan asso ciations, A bill was introduced to let voters of Crestville, Washington coun ty, decide as to a dispensary. ' Bill to pay solicitors a salary instead of fees was set a special order for Tuesday, The bill pissed to prevent the gmng away of intoxicating liquors on election day to influence elections, and to make it unlawful to deal in liquor on election day, in five miles of any voting place. Raleigh, Feby 27. -At a conference this evening about the South Dakota bond suit matter, there were present Governor Glenn, Attorney General Gil mer. The Council of State, the Legis lative Committee.composedof Senators Scales and Zollicoffer and Representa tives Munihv of Rowan, Capprice and Gordon, A. G. Ricaud of New York.and F. H. Busbee, the last two being counsel for Schafer and Bro, of New York, the holders of the bonds. The matter was discussed by Busbee as to character of the claims, the his tory of the bonds, and how the Schafers bought them on the Wall street market ( over 85 years ago. No proposition of a definite character looking to a compro mise was submitted by either ide. The committee adjourned to meet ( tomorrow, when it ia learned definite action will be taken. It is estimated that Schaffor and Brothers will accept par for the bonds, without any interest, that is for the 242 bonds outstanding, outside of these held by South Dakota 1212,000.
