Benton and Her Sitter, Mlse Ruby Daniels In i Runaway. ' Mrs. J. E. Benton was driving with her sister Miss Ruby Daniels on East Front street last night, when a dog which was considerably excited by the ringing of the fire bell running in front of the horse scared it and caused it to run. The horse had not gone far before one of the reins broke and the ladies were entirely at the mercy of the frightened animal. Fortunately, "ho w- ever, it did not run far for it turned in to a narrow driveway between the Coca Cola factory and the fence. It ran in to the fence in the rear of the factory and was stopped. The ladies remained in the carriage and received no injury more than the terrible fright the affair must have caused them. Their escape from seri ous injury and perhaps a fatal accident was remarkable. - COTTON CONVENTION ADJOURNS Burial of Dr. Early at Louisburg. Franklin Times, Sept 8. The news of the death of Dr. E. F. Eail, which occurred at his home i;i New Bern on Friday morning last, was received here by wire a few minutes after he died. . His remains were brought home by special train on Sun day morning, and were placed in the Baptist church, where the funeral ser vices were held at 3 o'clock in the after nooo. The services were impressively conducted by Rev. H. H. Mashburnr. assisted by by He v. L. S. Massey, and although the weather was threatening quite a large number f ollowedHhe body to the cemetery. The remains were accompanied here by the father of the deceased, his two brothers, Herbert and Huffham Early, ' and his sister, Miss Ella Early; also by Mr. H. A Paere and wife, of Aberdeen, and Mr. M. K. Pleasants. Dr. Early was resident of Louisburg for about two years, having practiced his profession here and during his residence among us formed the friendship of a large number of friends who were pained to hear of his death, which was caused from an , operation for appendicitis. About 8 years ago he was married to Miss Lucy W. Pleasants, daughter of Capt. W. H. Pleasants, who with her little five-year old girl survive him. The bereaved wife and daughter have the sicere sym pathy of their friends. The following gentlemen, friends of the deceased, were the pall-bearers: J. M. Allen, Wm Bailey, J. W. King, M. S. Clifton, F. H. Allen, S. C Ford, J. R. Collie, W. H. Furgurson. The floral offerings which were profuse were very pretty- completely covering the grave. Mrs. Rev. L. C.
