The University ti North Carolina won a foot ball victory today Whiph beat all foot ball records for fast!and tactful playing. It was pretty game from start to finish and t'-.e science and athletic head work were prominent features, and they were easily recognized and received due annlause. The came was called promptly at 2.30 o'clock. Virginia won the toss and tl e game commenced with a vigor that never diminished for a mmute. The Uaro Una team showed the effect of good training, i. With all their hard work of the season they have not been in better form than they had yesterday. The first half ended with a score of 11 to 0. '' -During the short intermission there was a demonstration by the Carolinian visitors who showed their delight by the most strenuous actions, t in horns, pans, sauawkers and every instrument available that could make a loud noise was put into commission and the little blue and white flags were unfurled to to the breeze bv the ladies who had caught the enthusiasm and were just as excited as were the men. ' . In the second half the first touch down was made in five minutes. The Virginia team had a slight advantage having possession of the ball but Ab ernathy at the head of the rush line swept it away " in one tremendous effort ' and although the play for a short time was fierce the superior isfsjfii" an4 weight of the , CaroHnff be ij -asserted itself and the big full brisk reached the goal and ended one of t'ie most exciting games ever played t Franklin field. " The work of Whit- alter, left half back was also illustrious. 1 He figured in several plays and was instrumental in bringing victor to his team. 1 After the game Abernathy and Whit- aker were given very marked attention bv the crowd and players two of the plavers took them and carried them on their shoulders around the field and the spectators showed (onirratulations noon them. There were no accidents of any consequence during the game. In fact for such a vigorous snort there was less brutality than has been seen at any big game. The Carolina team numbered. 18 men and the Virginia had 10 substitutes, The attendance was estimated at about 15.000: it is said that there were fullv 6.000 North Carolinians in the crowd The weather was perfect and the occasion was in every respect up to the most sanguine anticipation. The visiting teams were given a fine recep tion and were guests oi honor at a theatre party at the branny upera House, the opera being " t he Beauty Doctor " The New Bern contingent are ex poctei home today. -".
