BRYAN GRIMES HR. W,C. BREWER REPLIES. Editor Jouknal:-Iu reply to an ar ticle in Friday's Journal, headed "Let us have light," I would reply, that I did not seek this notoriety, that I al lowed my friends through their impor tunity to use my name and place it be fore the people of the county as a can didate for the lower House of the next general assembly. l is pleasant and makes one feel very much flattered to have his name coupled with so high an honor. I believe it the duty of a rep resentative to represent the people and not his own personal views. I have no axe to grind in this contest,: though I ' have strong personal opinions on the questions that arc now being discussed by the people, I quote from the article "Let us have light" moral questions are rightly overshadowing all others with the peo ple, etc." .-' :' Al' moral law does and should come from the church. It is largely through the preachers that we have our civiliza tion, our prosperity, our enlightened religion in fact about all the gooi thing makes life worth while, they are the custodians and promulgators of the moral law. There is a ckuse in our con stitution that reads simething like this: "church and state shall forever.be kept separate. A wise act of the framers of the constitution) it preserves the liber ties of the people I am personally op posed to any drastic measures to en force moral law. My observation is that it degrades rather improves the morals of the people where it has been tried. Our common law reaches drunkards, profaners and adulterers, and is this not sufficient if it is enforced will pro tect the church and enforce the moral law. We have too much law. "A people least governed is best governed." Jefferson. I quote, "as he was foreman of the grand jury which failed to find true bills etc." Now, Mr. Editor, that is an impeach ment of my integrity, I shall answer his charge, but I don't think I ought I hope my friend the "Enquirer" knows a grand jury's duties and more espe cially the foreman. Eighteen men form a grand jury, It takes twelve votes to make a true bill,' then it is necessary for the foreman to vote. I did that in one instance, making it a true bill, the only one found against the blind tigers; now I am not offering this as a defense, there is none necessary. The grand jury at the April term of court 1905, discharged their duties as they saw it faithfully as this implied charge has been made I think I owe it to myself and my associates on the grand jury, to give certificates to the people that are not generally known. The facts are that certain citizens of New Born hired two men of Onslow county to come up to New Bern, find the blind l tigers and make bills of indictment against those violating the prohibitory law. for which they were to receive one hundred dollars and expenses which included board, lodging and what whis key and beer they drank while in the discharge of their duties as star wit nesses. These facts were drawn from the tried witnesses by questions from the grand jurors. Now these witnesses on the 6th day of March 1905, bought and drank six bottles of beer, one each, from six blind tigers, and also bought and sampled six bottles of whiskey, one from each blind tiger visited. Now the grand ju ry expressed themselves freely the majority of them did, that witnesses that had drank six bottles of beer and sampled six bottles of whiskey in one day were hardly competent witnesses. We know who the men were that beard the witnesses. We have no comments to make, The grand jury for the April term of court 1906 has no defense to make. These are condensed facts. As f,of temperance I strongly favor it I think there ought to be a temper ance organization at' every church, school home and neighborhood in the State.' ... . . Train up a child in the way he should go and when he grows old he will not depart from it I think I have said enough. I think I am pretty well known in the county. A voter who has no confidence in a candidate should not support him. I am not asking for votes, if they come voluntary I shall be thank ful and feel very much honored. - W. C. BREWER. July 16 1906. BLOOD PUmHERS" No other remedy has given such perfect satisfaction as a blood purifier and tonic or is so reliable in the cure of blood dis eases of every character as S. S. S. It is known as "The King of Blood Purifiers," and the secret of its success and its right to this title is because "IT CURES DISEASE," It is an honest medicine, made entirely of purifying, healing roots, herbs and barks, which are acknowledged to be specifics for diseases arising: from an impure or poisoned condition of the blood v and possessing tonic properties that act gently and admirably in the up-buflding of a run down, weakened or disordered condition of the system. VI ':sr' One of the greatest points in favor of S. S. S. is that it is the only blood remedy on the market which does not contain a mineral ingredient of some kind to derange or damage the system. It is the one medicine that can be taken with absolute safety by the youngest child or the oldest member of the family, and persons who have allowed their systems to get in such condition that most medicines are repulsive to the stomach will find that S. S. S., while thorough, is gentle and pleasant in its action, and has none of the nauseating effects of the different mineral mixtures and concoctions offered as blood purifiers. As every part of the body is dependent on the blood for nourishment and strength, it is necessary that this vital fluid be kept free from germs and poisons. So long as it remain uncontammated we are lortihed against dis ease, and health is assured ; but any impurity, humor or poison acts lniunousiy on the sys tem and affects the general health. Pus tular eruptions, pimples, rashes and the different skin affections show that the blood is in a feverish and diseased condition as a result of too much acid or the presence of some irritating humor. Sores and Ulcers are the result of morbid, unhealthy matter in the blood, and Rheumatism, Catarrh, Scrofula, Contagious Blood Poison etc., are all deep-seated blood disorders that continue to grow worse as long as the poison remains. But all blood diseases are not acquired; some persons are born with an hereditary taint in the blood and we see tins great affliction manifested in many ways. The skin has a waxy, pallid appearance, the eyes are often weak, glands of the neck enlarged, and as the taint has been in the blood since birth the entire health is usually affected. In all blood troubles b. b. b. has proved itself a perfect remedy and has well earned the title of "KING OF BLOOD PURIFIERS." It goes down into the circulation and removes all poisons, humors, waste or foreign matter, and makes this stream of life pure and health- sustaining. Nothing reaches inherited blood troubles like S. S. S.; it removes every particle of the taint, purifies and strengthens the weak, deteriorated blood, and supplies it with the healthful properties it needs and establishes the foundation for good health. As a tonic this great medicine has no equal, and it will be found especially bracing to weak, anaemic persons. Rheumatism, Catarrh, Sores and Ulcers, Skin Diseases, Scrofula, Contagious Blood Poison and all other blood troubles are cured perma nently by S. S. S., and so thorough is the cleansing of the blood that no trace of the dis ease is left to break out in future years or to be transmitted to offspring. If .you are in need of a blood purifier get "THB KING" of them all, S. S. S. and good results arc assured. Book on the blood aud any medical advice desired furnished without charge to all who write. r;;. swFTSPECinc COMPANY, ATLANTA, OA, Gentlemen: S. 8. B. Is used as a family medlolne in our home.
