Letter to M E Whitebursi.
New Bern, N. C.
Dear Sir: It is s great thing for s
merchant to have the exclusive sale (in
his region, of course) of anything wan
ted by everybody.
There are two ways to treat snch
goods. ' One is: put the price up and
make profit The other way is; be fair
and make more.
Devoe is the paint that takes least
gallons and costs least money a house,
a job, ft year, a lifetime no matter
how you reckon your costs, except by
the gallon Devoe ia the best care-taker
and costs least money.
Don't forget that the principal part
of the cost of paint is putting it on.
Less gallons, less cost. Don't forget
that another principal part of the econ
omy is long wear; less gallons, less cost
and long wear.
It is a great thing to have the exclu
sive sale of popular goods, of goods
that make friends, of goods that enrich
both buyer and seller. Devoe is per
haps only ten per cent better than one
or two others; but ten is a plenty it's
200 or 300 better than many.
There's many a merchant who hasn't
found out his goods. It doesn't take a
man long to find out that Devoe is the
least-money paint and why, no matter
which side he is on.
Yours truly,

Different Opinions on Cooper's Remarkable Success Held
, by St. Louis Medical Men. -
. .. St Lbuis. Oct 19. 1
The astonishing sale of Cooper's prep 1
stations in this city has now reached:
such immense figures that the medical I
fraternity at large have become forced
into open discussions of the man and his
preparations.
The physicians as s whole seem to be
divided with regard to the young man's
success in St Louis -some behgwill
tog to credit him for what he has ac
complished, while others taseert that
the interest he has aroused is but a
passing fad, which cannot last and
which will die out as quickly as it has
sprung up. '
The opinion of these two factions is
very well voiced in the statements
made recently by two of a number of
physicians who were interviewed on the
subject
Dr. J. E. Carass, when questioned
about the matter said: "1 have not been
a believer in proprietory preparations
heretofore, nor can I say that I believe
in them at present But I must admit
that some of the facts recently brought
to my notice concerning this man Coop
er has gone far towards removing the
prejudice I had formed r gainst him
when the unheard of demand for the
preparations first sprang up in this city
Numbers of my patients whom I have
treated for "chronic liver, kidney and
stomach troubles have met me after
taking Cooper's remedy, and have stat
ed postively that he has accomplished
wonderful results from them. I notice
An Important Ruling

Raleigh, Oct. 17. The Corporation
Commission makes an order that it
shall be the duty of every railway to
place a bulletin board in a conspicuous
place at each ticket office, upon which
shall be bulletined the time at which
each train carrying passengers is due to
arrive and leave under its public sche
dule. It is also made the duty of each rail
way at each telegraph station 30 minu
tes before the time when its trains are
due to arrive at such stations to bulle
tin this fact upon the board whether
said train is on time or not and if be
hind schedule time to state as nearly as
possible the time it is behind. When
ever there is any indefinite delay of any
passenger train it is made the duty of
the railway to bulletin at all such sta
tions the cause of such delay and the
probable continuation thereof, and the
passengers on board of such train shall
also be informed of probable delay.
It is further made the duty of the
railway to cause its bulletin of all de
layed trains to be corrected from time
to time, as the entries thereon are as
certained to be incorrect .
