Perfect System, Many people availed themselves of tho invitations published in the Wed nesday arc! Thursday issues of the .Tournal relative to open house at the Stewart Sanatorium. During the en tire time the ushers were busy showing the guests; through the rooms, and giv- ng such information as would be in teresting and valuable. Every person who entered t !e door was courteously received arid shown through the insti- tutijn, and there were many manifes tations of -surprise at the equipment and service. The host of the occasion was the head nurse. MUs M. S. Covington; she was astU.ed by .Misses Norma and Le ona Cox, Mav Uor dren, N'amie Street and Carrie ArVideU. The ushers were the nurses -.mi stiUer1 nurses. Misses Just'ee, I'uAtll, KluVick and Powfrs. In the retnshinent room Miss Leila Styton poured the eott'-e. Miss .lanie Stewart olticiated at the punch bowl and MirS JImuiI Hiewari server uie cake. The purpose of this informal recep tion was, as has been stated, to ac quaint the peopl- with the ucenmm'vla- tions and equipment at the institution. From beginning to end the place is a model of neatness and cleanliness. There is no superfluous furniture nor draperies to catch and hold dust and ! e a breeding place for germs. Wlule it is plainly furnished it is not uninviting. The waids and private looms are ail scrupulously clean and neat. The operating room is fitted with ail that is best for that department. The table, a model of compactness ai d ef ficiency has the credit of being the best known to the surgical f rate-nit v. The sterilizing room which is very elaborate gives proof that there is not an instru ment, cloth, bandage or anything used i i connection with an operation that is n t thoroughly cleansed and sterilized in the most approved way. All in all the Sanatorium is arranged and conducted in a most admirable man ner and the people of New Item should appreciate it, for it is a very necessary institution. Mr Stewart is to he com mended for making the building into a placu which will be of great benefit to the city. It will be remembered that there are several "endowed'' beds which are to insure treatment for those who are not financially able to go there as patients. The reception was a sue cess and we trust the interest taken in the Sanatorium yeslerday will be permanent. The reason for thd extraordinarily high price for turkeys lies in the fact that they are a very scarce article there' being scarcely 50 per cent of the supply year ago. 'I he wet weather was Jisastrous to the turkey industry. There will be a praise service tonight it 7:.'M o'clock at the Christian church on Hancock street. The program will consist of solos and choruses, and reci tations. At the ciosV a voluntary ottering will be taken up. Everybody rdially invited to attend. There was a small attendance at the moving picture exhibition last night. Family and party gatherings were ipiite generally enjoyed tlnoughoui the city yesterday. Notwithstanding the high price of turkeys the supply was not equal to the demand though the national bird graced many a table. This is the last day of the vote on the big doll at McSorleys store. The votes will be counted tonight and the doll awarded to the one getting the highest number of votes. The young daughter of Mr. Jesse Stubbs,- living near Vancoboro is re ported very ill with diphtheria. There are said to be several cases of the dis ease in that neighborhood.
