A carload of exceptionally larg-e cat tle passed through this city yesterday morning enroute from Pamltco county to Durham. It is supposed that the cat tle will be used for breeding purposes. The steamer "Howard" made its first trip down the river yesterday af ter having been raised from the bottom of the river on the previous day. The sinking of the vessel was caused by the opening of several seams just below the water line. ; The cold spell which (las prevailed during the past Tew days seem to be of the "sticking" variety. In fact it is sticking so faBt to this locality that if it continues much longer every tree that has already budded will be as dead as ' the proverbial door nail within a very short while. The city of Wilmington is making elaborate preparations for the big ag ricultural and aviation meet which is to be held there on March 9-11. The grounds at which the exhibitions will be held are being put in order, and the immense crowds which are expected will be well cared for during their visit to that place.
