While engaged in shifting several . , cars around the yard at the Trent river warehouse yesterday morning the en gineer on the shifting engine failed to hear the signal given by the brakeman and in consequence two of the cars which were loaded with lumber were shoved into the river. The wrecking train was brought, out, and the cars were lifted from the river and again placed on the track, - ! Yesterday morning the . Board of County Commissioners met at the court house in this city In special session for the purpose of counting and canvassing the petition which has been circulated in 8th, township for the past few days asking the. voters of the township to aid in securing the Farm-Life School. One fourth of the names of the freehold ers in the county were compelled to be on this petition and when they were counted it was found that there was more than this number. The Board then ordered that an election for the issuance of $25,000 worth of bonds for this project be held on July 22nd, , ' WIDKESDAT. Hon. S. M. Mr. Wil liams gave his entire time to the build ing of this vehicle and it is one that cannot fail to attract attention, ' ' While coming across Neose ' river bridge late yesterday afternnooo and when near this side, three empty flat cars of ajlog train jumped the track and fell into the river. The steam derrick was brought into service and the track cleared in time for the passenger train to go by. ' - , ' A visitor here yesterday informed us that on the previous night a refresh ing rain fell in sections of Pamlico Co. Yesterday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents at Newport, Miss Lyda , Rogers became - the bride of Mr. Durham Stailings of this city. Immediately after the cere mony had been performed the happy couple returned to this city where they will make their home for the present. This morning Mr. Thomas Lassiter, foreman of that company will leave for Columbia, S. C, with the Atlantic's horse and hose wagon, which they will enter in the Interstate race to be held in that city on Juue 27th. ( Yesterday morning a law went into effect at Bridgeton that all hogs found running at large would be caught and placed in the eity's pound.
