C, July 26.--lt Is learn ed here on undoubted authority that a call will be issued at once for the Re publican State Executive Committee to meet in Greensboro August 7th, to call a second State Convention for the nomination of a State ticket and any other business that may develop. This means that the convention can't be held before September 7th and may be called for a date even later than that; also that there will be a very short campaign in this State. It 1s under stood that this late calling of the con vention is to prevent possible captur ing of the convention machinery by the Roosevelt "Bull Moose" forces. Raleigh, N, C., . The citi zens of Winston-Salem, with charac teristic civic pride and with unbounded admiration for the men who wore the gray, are making extensive and ela borate preparations for the annual meeting of the Nor-h Carolina division Of the Unitnd Confederate Veterans on the 7th and 8th of August. It is a well- known fact that the people of, Winston- Salem never do things in a half way style, Whatever is undertaken is well done or not done at all, and in the pre parations that are being made to care for and entertain the two thousand and more old soldiers that are expected to attend this reunion,, everything possi ble is being done to make our ever wel come visitors comfortable and happy. Special to the journal. Beaufort, July 26. One of the most curious fish ever caught near BeaufoJt was captured this morning by Captain John B. Moore, a boatman from the Inlet Inn. This fiBh is known as a cow fish and is of the marimal variety, some thing similar to ' a whale, measured some twenty feet in length and weigh ed about 2500 pounds. It was captured right in front of the Inlet Inn and was quite a curiosity to the visitors in Beau fort. The Editorial Association from Morehead City. Atlantic Hotel, was brought over in boatsto see this' curi osity. Capt. Moore says that this is quite a curiosity and is a very rare fiBh. The way it was captured, it came up in shoaly water and as the tide fell, it could not get off the shoal and beat its self to a death and while in its fury, it would throw water forty or fifty feet high, making a beautiful rainbow ef fect, to be seen from the Inlet Inn porch, y about 7.30 o'clock.
