The week from April 28th to May
2nd wll be "Parents Week" at the
graded school and during the week very
parent is urged to visit the school and
see the work done. There will be no
special exerc;ses held but the work just
as it is done every day in the school
room can be seen.
Visitors are welcome at any time
and all times but each year for the past
four or five, we have had "Parents
Week" and given -a special invitation
to every one to visit the school.
A committee representing the Wo
man's Club visited the schools on
Thursday and spent several hours in
looking over the situation and the needs
of the school. .
The Committee consisted of Mrs.
Harry Marks, Mrs. C. R. Thomas,
Mrs. D. E. Henderson, Mrs. Clyde
Eby, Mrs. J. P. C. Davis, and Mrs
S. "L. Dill, Jr., These ladies visited
every room in school and will make a
report of their visit to the Woman's
Club.
The W. C. T. U. of the State of
North Carolina has offered five dollars
in gold for the best declamation on
temperance. We have quite a number
of enthusiastic young speakers who
are busv choosing speeches. Up to
date there arc ten contestants. On
some Friday night before commence
ment this contest will take place and
the money will be awarded on the night
of the graduation exercises. The boys
of the 7A and 8B grades are taking
part in this.
The contestants for the Henderson
medal are also busy memorizing some
of "The World's Famous Ora
tions" in preparing for the Declama
tion contest, which will be held during
commencement week. The conetst
is open to the boys in the High School.

Bell and Mary Belo Moore, four
pupils of Miss Windley's Physical
Culture class, delighted the primary
grades by giving a Danish folk dance
on Fri lay morning These littlt ladiis
went through the figures beautifully
and it was throughly enjoyed by every
one Another number which pleased the
children was a vocal solo, "Mr. Bum
ble's Pray", sung very sweetly by
MaryDeppe, a tiny maid from the
Grade.
On Tucstjay, the pupils of the Ii
Grade had a "spelling bee" covering
the work of the term. They spellu!
