Sportsmen who are interested in
horse racing will regret to learn that
Virginia Guard, a handsome and fast
horse owned by Dallas White, of Eliza
beth City, and which has been entered
in a large number of races on the local
track, will not be seen here during the
week's racing at the Fair grounds.
The horse was in charge of trainer
Bush, who has the Fair ground racing
stables in charge, and when he and the
owner had a disagreement the latter
swore out claim and delivery papers
for his property and had Sheriff Lane
to seize it.
The horse was held for a short time
pending instructions from the owner
and on Friday was sent to Elizabeth
City.

stone pile, Morris Perlstein, a rich
manufacturer of Milwaukee, left for
his home today a much wiser man
regarding Pennsylvania nonsupport
laws.
According to the police, Perlstein
moved his business to Milwaukee
some time ago, hoping to escape pay
ment of a support order for his wife.
City Solicitor Ryan had him brought
back, however, and the Court gave
him the opportunity of paying his
arrears, which amounted to $605, plus
the cost of his extradition, $400, or
swinging the hammer on the stone
pile. Perlstein settled the claim.

Julia Caroon of Oriental were married
in this city Wednesday afternoon
by Rev. Walter Patten, pastor of the
Methodist church at that place. Mr. and
Mrs. O'Neal will continue to make their
