POSES AS "SEPTEMBER MORN."
Nude Man At Great Central Termi
nal Mistaken For Statue.
New York, Nov. 2o. A man who
says he is Mate Tanos, of Woodbridge,
N. J., created great excitement in the
Grand Central Terminal when he pos
ed as "September Morn,' dad in a
cheery smile. .He was sent to the psy
chopathic ward in Bellevue.
7 he man wis seen posing in the
balcony which runs around the wail
ing room.
"That's some art," one man declar
ed. "I don't like nude work, general
ly, but it sure is lifelike."
"Judging from the way the statue is
muscled, I guess it must be a figure of
Hercules. Inever saw a statue of
him, however, without clothing," re
plied another.
The two stopped to admire the fig
ure and others joined them. Many
women were admiring the work when
the statue moved. There were shrieks
and women ran out of the waiting
room. Several policemen went to the
balcony and arretted the man. He
objected to dressing Tefore entering
the ambulance.

FROM DEATH
COLORED MAN HAS FEW THRIL
LING MOMENTS UNDER
STREET CAR.
Just how near Hohn Brooks, colored,
came to losing his life when he stepped
backward from one of the New Bern
Ghent Street Railway Company's cirs
will probably never be known. Although
he escaped with his life, Brooks was
painfully hurt and was probably scared
out of se- era! weeks' growth.
The accident oecuered near C. J.
McCarthy & Son's store and was
witnessed by quite a number of people.
In stpeping from the car Brooks
in some way got his foot caught in the
brakes and waa dragged along the track
for a considerable distance before
mot or man Praston HasseJ became aw
wars of the fact that a tragedy was
about to happen.
Aa soon as Mr. Haasel discovered
that his car waa dragging a man along
the track, he threw .n the emergency
brake and brought it to a atop and
Brooks waa extricated from his peril
ous f position. An examination of his
injuries by a physician showed that
they were not of a serious nature.

SAVES DAUGHTER
Advice of Mother no Doubt Pre
Tents Daughter's Untimely End.
Ready, Ky . ' I was not able to do
anything for nearly six months," writes
Mrs. Laura Bratcher, of this place, "and
was down in bed for three months.
I cannot tell you how I suffered with
my head, and with nervousness and
womanly troubles.
Our family doctor told my husband he
could not do mo any good, and he had
to give it up. We tried another doctor,
but he did not help me.
At last, my mother advised me to take
Cardui, the woman's tonic. 1 thought
it was no use for I was nearly dead and
nothing seemed to do me any good. But
I took eleven bottles, and now 1 am able
to do all of my work and my own
washing.
1 think Cardui is the best medicine in
the world. My weight has increased,
and I look the picture of health. "
If you suffer from any of the ailments
peculiar to women, get a bottle of Cardui
today. Delay is dangerous. We know
it will help you, for it has helped so
many thousands of other weak women
in the past 50 years.

Charcoal and qulckllma are the beat

utilizing charcoal In the food closet
or In the cellar bias where traits or
vegetables are kept la to suspend it
to a net hag. Any ooarse open net
will do. Make a number of bags suf
ficiently large to hold several large
lumps of charcoal Do not powder the
charcoal, but fill the bags with the
rumps, and after' they have had an op
portunity to display their marvelous
power to absorb all aorta of bad smells
and mustiness, and leave the atmos
phere pan and sweet, their usefulness
will not be over. Remember that the
power of charcoal to serve its puri
fying purposes la proportioned to Its
freshness, and the freshening process
la restored by heating. At least once
a week take the charcoal hags down,
empty thorn to a Ire pot kept for the
purpose and heat the charcoal vary

be restored to the net bags and serve
a new period of usefulness.
Boxes of lime and Jars of plaster

WOMEN'S BANK MEETS WANT

The possibilities of banking aa n
career for women have been demon
strated by Farrow's Bank for Woman,
which waa inaugurated a couple of
years ago to London, and which, man
aged entirely by woman, prove- so
successful that it waa recently moved
to new and enlarged quarters.
The bank's success, to the opinion
of Mrs. Kate Reilly, the manager, la
largely due to the hearty support It
has received from women.
"The eagerness with which women
of alb classes and from all parts of
the empire took up the idea of an to-
stltution devoted entirely to their
needs was to itself a proof that Far
row's novel departure waa fulfilling a
long-felt want," Mrs. Reilly said.
"Our bank gives women the privi
lege of consulting' one of their own
sez about their business affairs.
"The business transacted here la
the same as that transacted by any
other Joint stock bank, and the fact
that all our staff consists of women is
good evidence that one sex Is not
mora gifted than the other to accu
racy and a head for figures.

clients, where they can meet their
friends and write letters."
