The decisive battle to settle the fate of Riga has begun. The war office' today admitted the Russians have been thrown back across the Dwina, SO miles southeast of Riga. The Ger mans are attempting to cross the ri ver under cover of heavy artillery fire. TOltEL Today Is Sweetheart Day Norfolk, Sept. 4. Despondent ov er prolonged ill health, Adolph E. Seibert, manager of the Arcade thea tre, ended his life at his home, Third street and Brambleton avenue, Riv erside, yesterday morning at 8:45 o'clock by shooting himself through the temple with a .32 calibre Smith and Wesson revolver. He was in bed in a room up stairs when the shot that ended his life was fired. Mrs. Seibert was downstairs. Hearing the explosion of the revolver, she ran up to her husband's room, where she found him dying. County Coroner J. 8. Carmine viewed the body and or dered it prepared for burial. Mr. Seibert had been in declining health for several months. Last fall he had fever, and never fully recovered from the effects of it. While he had been kept to his home for the most of the time daring the past six months on account of the condition of his health, he had not seemed unduly de spondent, although at times he seem ed depressed. Mrs. Seibert said that her husband's actions and manner yesterday had not intimated to her that he was planning to end his life. His death came as a violent shook to her. Mr. Seibert was 47 years old. He was a native of New York, but had lived in Norfolk for the past 23 years. ' He was well known in this oity, and had a large number of friends and business associates. He had been man ager of the Arcade theatre, on City Hall avenue, for several years. Prior to accepting the managership of this theatre, Mr. Seibert was employed with the Norfolk and Portsmouth Traction Company. He is survived by his wife, who was a daughter of the late James D. Reed, and by three brothers, Emil Seibert, Charles Seibert and Oliver Seibert and a sis ter, Mrs. Hannah Davis, of New York. The funeral will occur Sun day afternoon at the residence and will be conduoted by Rev. F. G. Davis, pastor of Brambleton Avenue Me thodist church.
