Several years ago, at a meeting at Union, the three Katchford ministers were in the pulpit, the grandfather, sou nd a grandson, three generations. The Old gentleman is "still preaching. Hi' holds two famous old churches, l irzah, where his home is, ami Waxhaw, and the congregation with cars or buggies laden with good things for the dinner drove up. It is a very old settlement, near the bor tier of the two states, and Tirzah is in South Carolina while Waxhaw is in N'brtli Carolina. There was a splendid dinner, and utter that a meeting in tin church, where Judge Jones, Kev. (i. A. Sparrow and Kev. ( has. After that, us the thunder, was rolling, the ! party began to prepalo,; & thu home tfoiug, all wishing Mr. Hatcliford to cole Urate his llMlth anniversary, which lie said he expected to do. It is a delightful neighborhood nnd tilled with cultured and charming people, the descendants of many Revolutionary heroes. Just inside tfie cemetery gates at Tirzah, we saw the graves of three McCains, all of whom were soldiers of the Revolution, ami also "one of a Mrs. McCain who "shared with her husband the evils of the Revolu tionary war"; this is on the tombstone. Around the cemetery is a beautiful iron fence ami it is well ke(t. There was one gfave 1 could not find, that of Rev. Mr. BlAvkstock. He used to preach at Tirzah and when he got wound up be did nut know how to stop, but prca'dicd nil day. The church is modern looking. A fen years ago it was made over and tl,. see tion. removed win-re the faithfnl old .- ored mcmlNTs used to sit. Rev. William W. The building is not very old. 80 we will pass on to the cemetery. In this is buried the father of President Andrew Jackson. The grave, although well located, is not marked, h;is Mu tomli slone, alul the Colonial Dames or 1. A. K.'s should see to that.
