LANDERS CHAPEL. Aug. 23. Tha
refreshing showers of the past few days
have been of great benefit to the late
crops. -The late com is looking fine.
The boll weevil has made. his appear
ance on Mr. M. A. Carpenter's farm.
However, we hoe the eotton will not
be damaged much.
Mr .and Mrs. Samuel Carpenter, of
China Grove, Bient several days of last
week with Mr. Carpenter's parents,
Mr. "and Mrs. M, A J Carpenter,
Quite a number of the people of this
neighborhood have been attending the
tent meeting in Lincolnton, held by Mr.
Mc Lend on. Tbe tent holds about seven
thousand and is filled to overflowing
every night. Mr. McLendon is doing a
great work as an evangelist, and de
nounces ain in its eery form.

Last Saturday night Miss Venia Car

their many friends by surprise when
they motored over to Crouse to the
Lutheran, parsonage where they .were
quietly married by Bev. Cad Lippard,
tha brula's pastor, Mrs. Setzer is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A, Car
penter and is a yomig woman of many
splendid qualities and is one of Lincoln
eouaty'a efficient school teachers. Mr.
Betser 'is a native of Gaston county but
ia at present located in Virginia. Mr.
and Mrs. Setier boarded the train
Monday morning for Virginia where
they will make their future home. Their
many friends wish for them a long and
happy life together.
