C, Feb. 2.—Grad ing farm crops so that the owner may receive a price based on grade is becoming more important in North Carolina. Farmers know more about grades than formerly and they demand to be paid ac cording to tfie quality of material that they put out. Little is known, however, about tobacco grades. The best grow ers, of course, grade their weed and by grading it get a much bet ter price than the man who dumps his weed on the market without any attempt to separate the best leaf from the poorest. There are definite grades of tobacco now established by the United States government and each grower who wishes to get the most money from his tobacco crop should know something of these grades. To aid in this, the State College of Agricultural will hold a three day short coarse in tobacco grad ing on February 8, 9 and 10. 'Hie course is frec of charge, meals are reasonable in price and rooms may be had convenient to the college campus. The course will be in charge of Prbf. J. B. Cot nee of the Department of Agrono my. He will be assisted by Prof. E. G. Moss, superintendent of the Tobacco Branch Station near Ox ford. The actual grading instruc tion will be in charge of Frank B. Wilkerson, tobacco specialist of the United States Department of Agriculture at Washington. Mr. Wilkerson will explain the new tobacco grades, will give practical instruction in grading to all students attending and will de scribe and grade all the various samples of tobacco that will be used in the course. At the close of the course on February to, a tobacco grading contest will be put on with suit-’ able prizes offered to the success ful students. It is expected that many growers will take advant age of this course and those who plan to come should write at once to Prof. Cotner or to Dr. Z. P. Metcalf, ^director of teaching at State College. WEST OF 35 Emmerson Hough wrote “North of 36,“ a thrilling story of the west. Our story is entitled, "West of 35,” which means on the west side of 35 years of age. When a man gets west of 35 he always wishes he had taken out all the insurance he could have carried—say $5,000.00 or $10,000.00. A policy taken out at the age of 30 will mature when the policy-holder is 40. And if. the policy is purchased in February the premium comes due each year when to bacco money is in hand with which to pay it.
