Shelton and daughter, Helen, Misses Nettie and Mattie Foster Earl, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Foster. Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Foster spent Sunday afternoon with their daughter, Mrs R. W. Sat terfield. Mr. Steve Poteat accompanied several friends to High Point Sat urday, returning home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Shelton, Mr. ahd Mrs. L. T; Hicks and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Fe lix Smith Wednesday evening. J. A. White and Miss Viola spent Sunday in Roanoke, Va. Mrs. Mollie Hicks and daugh ters, Mary Sue and Katie, spent Thursday afternoon with Mrs. W. B. Shelton. Mrs. J. A. ’Wphitc and children spent part of last week in Roa noke, Va., visiting Mrs. White’s sister, Mrs. McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. Josie Rudd and Mrs. Emma Walters visited Mrs. R. A. Poteat Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. E. 0. Foster spent Sunday with Mrs. R. S. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Kirks, of Schoolfield, Va., was the week end guest of W. W. Rawland. Mrs. Eliza Wood spent last week in Danville visiting friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. % W. Powell spent the week-end in Greens boro visiting her sons, T. J. Powell and E. L. Powell. Miss Isabella Poteat is visiting her sisters, Mrs. W. B. and J. S Shelton. M. D. Merz, manager of Hams berger’s department store, was in Yancey ville last week looking over the town. LEASouKu The Woman's Missionary So cieties of the Durham district, of which Miss Lillie Duke is secre tary, had a meeting at Cedai Grove Thursday, June 29. Avery large crowd was in attendance and most of the auxiliaries in the district were represented. Those present from Leasburg were: Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Clegg, Mrs. W. J. Pulliam, Miss Mattie Pul liam, Mrs. W. E. Connally, Miss Bessie Thompson and Mrs. L, Neal. Miss Burkhead and Mrs. Wilion, two missionaries, gave interesting talks. A bright Chi nese girl, student at Weslyan College, Macon, Ga., but now at tending summer school at Duke University, was also present. Mr. and Mrs. James Newman and daughter, Miss Elizabeth, from Winston-Salem, are visiting relatives in Leasburg. Mr. and Mrs. John Pulliam and daughter, Mary Catharine, from Winston-Salem, are visit ing Mrs. Pulliam^ parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Newman. Mr. Sherman, from Massachu setts, and Mr. J. A. Long and three children, from Roxboro, visited the Misses Thompson Sunday. Little Miss Mabel Smith, from Elon College, is spending some time with her aunt, Mrs. J. R. Smith. Mrs. Banks Wade, from near Leasburg, spent several days with Mrs. Ruth Hamlett. Leasburg’s oldest citizen, Mrs. Martha Sawyers, 95 years of age, is very feeble and is confined to her bed most of the time. Miss Helen Graves and Miss Bessie Thompson motored to Chapel Hill Friday. Mrs. Cora Newsome and chil dren, of Littleton, are spending the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pulliam. LEASBURG, R. No. 1. Bushy Fork and the Trolly wood ball team played Saturday, the 25th of June, at TroUinger’s Store. The game was 8 to 2 in favor of Trolley wood team. An interesting game was play ed July 3 between Bethel Hill team and the Trolly wood team, the score was 9 to 2 in favor of Trollywood team. Played at Trollinger's Store, After the first game Leasburg second nine played Trolly wood’s second nine, the score being 9 to o. Crops are looking fine in this section after the good rains.. Revival services will begin July 10 at Union church, Rev. F. S. Nicks will do the preaching. PELHAM Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Miss Pauline Cooper left Sun day night for McGuire’s Hos pital, Richmond, Va., for exami nation and treatment. Her friendi wish for her a speedy recovery. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs E. N. McGee has recovered suf ficiently to be removed from Me morial Hospital to their home. Hugh Cooper, who is attending summer school at Guilford Col lege, is at home for a few days. C.„ who were class mates of Miss Melissa Blackwell and members of the graduating class at G. C. W. in June, and Miss Sarah Belle, of Charlotte, N. C, are house guests of Miss Blackwell. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Parish and children, John and Elizabeth, of Greenville, S. C., and Little Jule Parish, of Oxford, N. C, are visit ing Mrs. Sumter George. Irvin King, of Danville, Va., who is spending the summer with Mrs. Sumter George, is at Camp Hunt, Baysville, Va., near Nor folk for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. King and daughter,.of Williamston, N. C., are guests of Mrs. Pattie King. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Badgette and son, Henry, of Mt. Airy, are spending some time with Dr. J. F. Badgette. Van W, Daniel, who has been in Akron, Ohio, for the past t8 months, is now visiting his fam ily. Miss Louise Daniel, of Dan ville, Va., and Mrs. W. T. Daniel, of Sutherlin, Va., spent the past week-end with Mrs. Van Daniel. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Strader, Mrs. A. R. Blackwell, Mrs. J. B. Watlington, and Miss Lizzie King, of the Bethel Missionary Society, attended the District Conference meeting at Cedar Grove on last Thursday. Miss Virginia Ferrell, of the Cobb faculty, is spending the summer with her brother, Bart lett Ferrell, in Burliugawe, Cali fornia, a suburb of San Francisco. Mrs. John Ragland had as her guest last week Mrs. Meyers, of i Alexandria, Va. Miss Elizabeth Gatewood, who is attending the summer session at N. C. C. W., and Miss Ola King, at Wake Forest, spent the holidays at home. LEASBURG >4 The third quarterly meeting of the Leasburg circuit took place at Hebron church, Friday, June 24th, with the presiding elder, Dr. M. Bradshaw in charge. Rev. T. V. Knight, pastor of Branson church, Durham, preached a force ful sermon in the forenoon. Those attending from Leasburg were: Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Clegg, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pulliam, .Mrs. W. Connally, and Miss Helen Graves. The Leasburg Sunday school has a drive on hand for getting new scholars. The school has been divided into two sections, Miss Helen Graves being captain of the Blues, and Miss Annie Newman of the Re<ls. The com petition is being conducted with considerable enthusiasm. The winning side will be treated to a picnic by.^ie others. The Young People’s Mission ary Society met Saturday eve ning with Miss Mattie Pulliam. An interesting program was con ducted, after which all enjoyed a social hour, closing with delight ful refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stephens and J. Miss Mildred Connally and Mrs. L. Neal made a pleasant, but Rying trip to Yanceyvitle Friday. CORBETT Mrs. T. A. Boland charmingly entertained the members of her Sunday school class at her home at Corbett, on Saturday evening. Summer flowers made the home inviting and attractive. The hostess was assisted in the entertaining by her sister, Mrs. J. Bascom Hurley, of Rougemont, N. C., who was her house guest at the time. Two interesting contests were efnjoyed. Boxes of fudge were ... ■■■■■—...—-...... „ given as prizes, one going to Miss Elizabeth Dailey and Mr. Howard Stainback and the other to Miss Georgia Smith and Mr. Oswald Hooper. After some games a delicious salad course followed with mints was served by Mrs. Boland, Mrs. R. A. Hooper, T. E. Smith, Mrs. G. C. Satterfield and Miss Daisy Miles. Each member of the class was allowed to bring a friend so there were about forty guests present. * Lieutenant Peerman Moore, of Washnigton, D. C., formerly of Milton, will be married to Miss Pender, of Norfolk, on Saturday night, July 2nd. Miss Annie * Dailey Connally will attend the wedding. Authorities say they think prices of farm products will be good.
