Mrs. West was a l Christian, having joined the Mis | sionary Baptist church at the age of 14. She was never happier ? than when rendering some neigh [ bor a service. \ Bom, to Mr. and Mrs. R. H. \ Carroll, on last Friday morning a \ ten-pound boy. Mrs. Carroll is S tiow the happy mother of 12 fine 1 children, all of whom are living. ! She and her husband are to be | congratulated. We have found j from observation that large fami S lies are always happier than small f ones. Providence graded school is \ growing. The present enrollment \ is 93. We are, still hoping that \ the time is not far off when Dan I River shall have a good school, \ too. Those on the Honor Roll in the first and second grades are: Net tie Daves, M^ry Buckner, Pres ton Dunevent, Margaret Lester, Harry Bray and Elizabeth Hodges. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Gobdson will be glad n to learn that their infant son, “ Neal, is improving. . Mrs. Annie Bell Goodson is convalescing from a fall, we are ) glad to note. Rev. W. S.‘ (Tillman and wife are the happy occupants of the new nine-roomed parsonage. They moved in Wednesday, October 19th. Providence church is proud of its parsonage and is deeply grateful to the pastor for his un tiring efforts in erecting such a beautiful building. It behooves us as church members to stand by such a progressive leader. PROSPECT HILL-RIDGE VILLE Quite a large crowd attended the regular services at Prospect Hill Baptist church Sunday morn ing. The Young People’s Sunday School Class of Bethel church gave their teacher, Miss Myrtle Wilkinson, a surprise party Fri day night. There were about thirty present. After a most en joyable social hour fruit salad and cake were served by Miss Bettie Boswell, assisted by Mrs. J. D. Burton. Miss Myrtle seemed to enjoy the surprise but appeared rather excited at first. | Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Burton spent last Monday in Durham. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Wilkinson, Miss Myrtle Wilkinson, Miss Bet tie Boswell, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Long and Mrs. J. D. Burton at tended the presbyterial at Bethes da church last Wednesday. Mr. Herman Brooks was home from Ruffin for the week-end. Quite a'number around here at tended the circus in Roxboro Sat urday, afternoon and evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Joins, Messrs. Maybe and Hendrix spent | the week-end at home. Mrs. H. E. Satterfield accom panied Mr. and Airs. Joins home. ! Miss Beatrice Ramsey spent the week-end at her home in South Boston. The Prospect Hill boys' and girls' basketball teams played Anderson’s teams Friday after noon. The Prospect Hill teams winning by a score of (girls) 5^*9 > (boys) 37-6. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Williams spent Sunday with Mrs. Rogers, L of Roxboro. I Miss May Williams and Jack , McAdams called on Misses Lois and Margaret Burton Saturday 0 night. They report a most in teresting and enthusiastic meet ; ings. Rev. and Mrs. McKenny spent Saturday night with Mrs. F. R. Warren. GATEWOOD-SHADY GROVE Rev. W. C. Merritt is holding a meeting at Shady Grove school house for the Shady Grove con gregation. The rain of the first of the week hindered the crowd but larger congregations are now meeting their pastor. Mrs. ChaSi A. Perkins, who has been alarmingly ill at Memorial hospital, is very much improved. However, she will be at the hos pital some time yet. Mrs. Fletcher Poteat, nee Per kins, is much improved. There has been almost an epi demic of colds—severe ones in our neighborhood. Sorry to note that L. S. Carter is on the sick list. E. W. Carter. Jr., of Winston Salem, spent the week-end with his parents, Mrs. Alton Wrenn, of Greens boro, has been visiting relatives in the neighborhood. Cards were received this week announcing the rparriage on the l6th inst., of Miss Annie Laurie Travis to George B. Lavinder, of Datlville. Miss Helen Pleasant spent the past week visiting in Danville, Va. Miss Hester Meeler, of Turber ville, Va., spent several days the past week visiting Miss Mabel Meeler. Rev. J. A. Martin, of Durham, N. C, and Rev. and Mrs. K. R. Cleggs were dinner guests at G. W. Tollinger's, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lea, of Danville, Va., visited Mrs. Lea's sister. Mrs. A. F.
