Florance and Mrs. Thomas Smith left Tuesday morning to attend the State Parents reachers convention in Charlotte and will be gone until Thursday. Mrs. R. H. Norris' little folks have been shut in at home with the measles, but they are recover ing nicely and will soon be back in school. Dr. Dungalson, of the hirst Pres-, byterian church ‘of Danville, preached a splendid sermon in the evening. A good crowd was in attendance and a bountiful din ner added to the pleasure of the occasion. Red House is rich in history. It has been a place of worship for more titan a hundred years: in (act, it is one of the old est churches of Caswell county. It was here before Cornwallis 'with his ruthless gang came. Messrs. Hunter ami John J5ax ter Kersey, of Lawrencevitle. made a short visit here Thursday, stopping by to see their aunt, Mrs. T. M. Allen. Miss Vida Lee Stephens, of Durham, spent the week-end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stephens. Mr. I. A. Kersey, of Lawrenee ville, <Va., spent Friday night with his sister, Mrs. T. M. Allen. Winstead went to Burlington Tuesday on a business trip. ' ■ COBB MEMORIAL SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY NEWS (Crowded out last week) Mr. Wiison Nethery, of Nicar agua, Central America, is visiting in the community. Mr. Nethery was a member of the class of 1923 of Cobb Memorial school. He has been in the United States navy for the last three years. Gertrude Daniel and Lily Jones gave Miss Louise Gatewood a surprise party last Friday night. There were twenty or more young people present. The guests play ed many interesting games after which the hostesses served apples and candy. Last Friday afternoon the Cobb Memorial girls met the Prospect Hill girls on the latter’s court. The game was hard played by the Prospect team but they were un able to get anywhere as the Cobb team was superior in passing and good throwing. The game was very interesting, though the score stood 52 and 10. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Daniel, of Koxboro, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Daniel's parents, Mr.1 and Mrs. R. A. Daniel. M iss Wilson Gatewood spent | the past week at Burlington, N. C. Miss Lavinice Anne Green and Miss Ola King spent the past week-end in Greensboro. On last Friday evening at 10:15 (/clock Mr. Pi H. Carroll died at the home of his son, Mr. R. H. Carroll. Mr. Carroll was 76 years old. He had been in bad health for some time but his death was very unexpected. He was buried Sunday afternoon at Providence church. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. Toni Hodges, A. 1 Sykes, T. M. Walker, WI W. McFarling, John Goodson, W. S. Loftis. Flower bearers: Bertha, Minnie and Nettie Carroll, Lessie Carroll, of Richmond, Glades Morgan of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Ola Burrow of High Point. The boys in the Agriculture 1 Class are making some rustic furniture. They have samples on exhibit in the auditorium. This furniture is for Sale at any price you think it is worth. They are thinking of having an auction sale soon. Don’t ntiss it. Mi Mary Owen Blackwell spent last week-end at her home, Alton, Va. Dr. Badget and Mr. John Rag land attended the Wake Forest Davidson game in Qreensoro Sat urdav. The following alumni, of Cobb Memorial school were at home' from college this week-end: Kliz aheth Gatewood of N. C. C. W John White, Glenn Williamson of Duke University, and Tom Neal of Davidson. The hoys’ basketball team or Cobb Memorial school wishes to apologize to the Prospect Hill boys’ team for their failure to play them last Thursday. There are so few boys in high school this > ear that it is almost impossible for them to have a team. The Parent'Teacher Associa tion of Cobb Memorial school gave a Hallowe'en party Triday night. Fifty dollars were cleared. 'This armnfnt will be used' to pay for teachers’ dishes which were bought (brought the association ; this \ ear. Mr. R. H. Carroll and family wish to thank the neighbors and j friends for their kindness shown during the sickness and death ot their grandfather.
