The first meeting- of the Philo loe-ical Ulub tor the year was held in , Prof. Harrington's of fice, 3rd floor, New West Build ing1, on Friday evening-, Sept. 28th. Prof. Harrington presented some 4 'Notes on Early Latin Rhyme. ' ' The forms of poetry, at that period, being- very crude, we should nat ually expect a very crude standard of rhyme; but such as that was, there are quite a number of instan ces in which Latin verse conforms to it. The subject was discussed by some of the members of the Club. The officers elected for the year are: Prof. Toy, President; Dr. Hume, Vice-President; Prof. Har- rincrton, Secretary and Treasurer. Y. M. C. A, Bible Classes. According- to a previous announce ment, those, wishing to join class es to study the Bible systematically met in the chapel Sunday at 12:30. Three classes were formed with Messrs. Home, Stephens and Cana da as leaders, while the leaders themselves, are under the especial supervision and instruction of Mr. E. L. Harris. Each class is to meet at least once a week at the conve nience of the leaders and those wish ing- to enaraere in the study. There have been fifteen names enrolled, and others have signified a desire to join. . : The classes will be conducted ac cording to a condensed work of Mr. Mott, which is considered especially good for work of this kind. This is another of the Y. M. C. A.'s good moves. May it prosper and introduce many more such movements.! The First Two Volumes OF The Tar Heel. Zoology teaches us that the hairs of the head are hollow, and contain an oil that gives them life. In clipping the hair with scissors, this hollow is left open, and the hair loses its life-giving- properties. I have a Machine named the Singeing Machine, which removes the hair and at the same time closes up the hollow causing the hair to retain its life-giving properties, and therefore stopping the hair from falling out or dying and giving it a soft life growth. Call and examine this machine and have your hair singed. Special attention given to dressing L,adies hair. Cutting hair done with exquisite and artistic skill by the old University Barber of twenty years experience. The Singeing Machine is highly recom mended by scientists throughout the coun try.
