TAR H FFJ , t: THE OFFICIAL ORGAN OK TUB UXIVKRSITY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ,3, OIVERSm OF SORItt CAKOim, CHAPEL HILL, 5.C, OCTOBER 1 1S94. : So.5. University Day. Doubtless most of our readers know with what pleasure a Uni versity student looks forward eacli year to the 12th of October. This is for us a legal holiday: On this day the corner stone of our oldest build ing was laid, and the President of our Univerity, Dr. Winston was born. Accordingly this day is a pleasure for faculty and students. The University 1 foot ball team cel brated the day by overwhelmingly defeating the A. & M. College, an account of which, can be seen else where in this paper. At night from 8:30 to 10:30 o'clock the Pres ent, frave a reception, to which, all of the students, friends of the Uni vprsitv. and visitors who happened to be in the village were cordially invited. The reception was given at. the home of Dr. and Mrs. Wins tnn. and made specially enjoyable by the presence of the young ladies and the abundance, ot reiresnmenis tn which they were served. Pro feasors and students met, not as in the daily routine of study, but to become more thoroughly acquainted and to eniov for a while the com- ,rf rh nther. We feel as- JJdi-ljf VJ. V-M-V" sured that more pleasant relation been established at least be ween some of the young men of the University and certain young ladies who were present on that occasion. w flanks and best wishes are ex tended to Dr. and Mrs. Winston for their kindness and the enjoyment and pleasure which their reception afforded us.
