V The Philosophical Club.
Tho first meeting of the Philosoph
ical Club was held in the English
Room Tuesday night last. Mr. R.
H. Wright as temporary chairman',
called the meeting to order. Offi-
jcers for the present year were elect-
, ed as follows:
i H. G. Connor, President.
. B. Craig, Vige-President.
Theo. Kluttz, Secretary,
i The subject of the evening's dis
cussion "The nature of mathemati
cal knowledge was then taken up."
I Mr. S. B.Sheuherd read the first
paper.,; Mr. Shepherd contended
that mathematical knowledge is
merely a matter of perception of re
lations. - '
MrvT. L. Wright read the sec
ond paper contending that mathe
matical knowledge involves pure
reason. Whether a conclusion was
reached or not this writer is unable
to say. We can say that when we
made our exit the lines were still
drawn and the battle was raging
fiercely. The Club regrets that Prof.
Williams was not able to attend its
first meeting.
