The President's Farewell, Concluded from first page thousrhtful man in this audience, if he will think, must know that he has it in his power to sustain that honor and keep it bright or by a thoughtless act to smirch it black as pitch. It is no light thing to be in fellow ship with the past of such an institu tion as this, to be fonnd with it in all the glories that may come in the fu ture. When you enter here you be come all that and are the custodians of its ancient reputatiou to give the large views, to hate the thing that is common, the thing that is small. I have a great deal of confidence 'and belief that the great body here is wholesome and clean and strong and manly, and that if some humors some times are discharged, it is just as such things happen from the well body in the physical world. And yet I want you somehow to be a little better than you have ever been while I am gone I feel that you have a certain trust put upon you that should cause you to have though tfulncss in all matters that relate to the name and fame of a great institution. It will be a great comfort to me to feel that those of you who gather here each morning shall have me in mind as you take part in these simple ser vices of praise and prayer to the great God who holds us in the hollow of his hand. Wherever I shall go I shall have in terest iii your concerns, and I shall want you to write to me, some of you, if you will. The first place I shall get mail is in Cairo. I shall hope to display the Tar Heel in Cairo. I do not think the Tar Heel will ever have a more thrilling reader even af ter a great base-ball game than I shall be as I open it in that far land. I shall want to know first of all that you are doing your work; to know that you" are here for, and trying to get to be men. Then I should like to We Guarantee Everything what you want vve win Ga , in debate and a. in base-ball, this Li tie am: you must hnd a way to let me If we iKlvn' know- M it for vou Finally, wherever I shall go and This is whatever I shall see, whether of cities or men, governments or climates or fashions or storied. buildings, renown ed inliistory, or great spots because great deeds were done upon them, mere snau never iaaeiromm Hours S to 8:30 u m mind some irrav old buildings set back , ., - , , ..
